You are reading page 3 of Media behaving badly. If you want to start from the beginning Go to First Page.

Regarding the Covington incident, I do place  blame mainly on the Black Hebrew Israelites, but also on the chaperones. As soon as the Black Hebrew Israelites started yelling at the kids, the chaperones should have moved the kids away, perhaps over closer to the buses, or down to the MLK monument. And I don't know if you have seen the video where some of the kids (not Mr. Sandmann specifically) chanting "it's not rape if you enjoy it" should have been shut down immediately.

The posted video went viral, the media did a poor job of covering it and I think there is much to be learned. I don't see how a suit against the media has any merit, though. What sort of damages are being sought?

Does that explain the rude, obnoxious behavior of the black Hebrew group or the Indian banging the drum in his face! How would you expect a teen to act in that situation, I think he handled it pretty well. The adults who were harassing the kids are too blame, who does that, seriously!!

Your response indicates to me, Daisy, that you are uniformed.

That doesn't surprise me.

The Native American was PERMITTED to be at the Lincoln Memorial, celebrating Indigenous People.

The Covington Catholic kids were not permitted.

I don't know if the Black Hebrew Israelites were permitted to be there.

Serious, concerned, adult chaperones from Covington Catholic should never have allowed the kids to engage the other religious zealots.

They should have disengaged, and walked away.

The Native American was trying to separate the two.

Too bad Covington Catholic chaperones didn't exercise good judgement.

The whole incident could have been avoided.

My point, exactly.

My guess is this lawsuit has more to do with clearing this kid for acceptance at a good college.

Rightly or wrongly, his smirking face is the face of this confrontation.

I highly doubt anything will come of this lawsuit.

I too wish the adults had taken the students away from the racist haters. Trying to communicate with illogical, angry hate group members is neither safe nor helpful.

We live in a 24-hour, seven-day-a week news cycle.

With Twitter, cell phone video, etc., and the demand for speed, some mistakes will happen.

Kind of like medication errors in nursing, due to short-staffing, high acuity and more and more time demands on nurses.

Is the media perfect? No.

Neither are nurses.

In fact, nobody is perfect.

What a shock!

I agree maybe chaperones might have been able to intervene.  However, I don’t see how their lack of action is to blame for, among other things, Bill Maher to call a 15 year old young man a “prick” on his show.

There isn’t a lawsuit filed yet.  Their is a letter to several named parties to not destroy video, audio, etc that might be used in a lawsuit.

Not to mention, Nathan Philips has proven to be a liar about almost everything he has reported about this incident, as well as his service in Vietnam, and even another somewhat similar incident in his past.

Clearly, the point about Fox News and any birther reporting is that the observer must first ignore that Fox News unapologetically forwarded that birther lie, as well as other propaganda, throughout the last 10 years.

Yeah, let's have a conversation about media behaving badly. Is David Pecker fair game? How about Steve Bannon or Sean Hannity, do they count?

Sure they are.  Why wouldn’t they be?

You mentioned Fox as a Republican propaganda tool and included a video of a Republican calling out the Republican Party for the birther movement.  Not a very effective example of Fox’s propaganda, imho.

Yes, we all know you hate Trump, but even if that were true (which at some level probably is bc both sides lie!) that doesn't let the media off the hook for not doing their job as professionals!

Yes, I do hate Trump.

Do you know why?

Because he is a liar, who enjoys spreading hate, and calling for violence at his pep rallies.

Yes. I sure do hate the man, and for good reasons.

Next you'll say he is lying about being Native American!

It's a perfect example of how Fox News blows with the conservative partisan winds and how their fans are oblivious to the hypocrisy in the Fox media brand.
