Didn't Lara Logan commit professional suicide when she published unsubstantiated lies about Benghazi?

No link.

The story is everywhere, so I assumed most posters knew what I was referring to.

It was so recent, I know about it  until now.  Trump endorses the accusation.

His Tweet:  "Wow, so many lies by now disgraced acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe. He was fired for lying, and now his story gets even more deranged. He and Rod Rosenstein, who was hired by Jeff Sessions (another beauty), look like they were planning a very illegal act, and got caught....."

I just can't even go there.

She apologized.  She said her sources lied to her.

She was criticized for the apology, by other journalists.

She blamed the source, instead of herself.

Journalism 101, teaches you that you verify your source, especially if they are giving you inflammatory information.

And this is why media organizations, such as NPR, will say:

The NY Times is reporting blah, blah blah.

NPR has not been able confirm/verify the story.

Sloppy work, burns.

And that is what happened to Ms. Logan.

I learned in college, while studying mass communication, that all a journalist has, ultimately, is the public's trust.

Violate that, and your career is over.

Ms. Logan learned that lesson.

It looks as though she is trying to rebuild her career any way she can.

Yes.

Perfect example of media behaving badly, courtesy of Fox News.

This thread was started with the intent to continue the spread of distrust in the mainstream media, by Trump and Trumpsters.

And why does Trump feel the need to discredit the media?

Well, he also discredits the DOJ, FBI, and CIA.

In other words, he attempts to discredit any instuition that doesn't fall in line with him, or his narrow set of beliefs.

I am sure Trump and Trumpsters, are merely preparing for what may be coming soon: Mueller report.

In the meantime, I am happy to debunk right-wing propaganda.

It's kind of like a game.

It's relaxing.

It's fun.

Carry on with the Games!

Here is another example of the media behaving badly.

From today's Washington Post:

'Time For The KKK To Night Ride Again': An AL Newspaper Editor Wants To Bring Back Lynching

Bravo to the student journalists who brought this outrageous garbage to light.

They have a bright future ahead.

"Democrats in the Republican Party and Democrats are plotting to raise taxes in Alabama... This socialist-communist ideology sounds good to the ignorant, the uneducated, and the simple-minded people."

"It's not calling for the lynchings of Americans. These are socialist-communists we're talking about."

Sutton also told the paper he did not believe the Klan was a violent organisation.

"They didn't kill but a few people. The Klan wasn't violent until they needed to be."

Thanks for the story Nel.  Sometimes our Freedom of Press is a bit disturbing, but I suppose we can't have it any other way.  Although Germany has free press, they can't glorify Nazism in press.

To me this is the problem with spreading lies like Democrats are "socialists" because it becomes "socialist-communists" and turns into hatred.  Granted we all know this is just a very few out of Republicans that would to hate and violence.  But it happens (such as the recent beating of a BBC reporter).

Another good example is "Drag Queen Story Hours" which is all around the country.  Parents choose to let their kids be read a story by a drag queen and it's a big hit with kids and parents alike.  There was a protester outside this month's hour here in St. Petersburg that had a huge sign "pedophile story hour".    We all know pedophiles are reviled and hated in our society.   We all should know that violence towards transgendered women and drag queens is at an all time high.

And we should all know that drag queen, doesn't equal pedophile.

Just like Catholic priest, doesn't equal moral citizen.

A robust First Amendment means we all have the right to be offended.

The saddest part of the story I highlighted, is just how far the newspaper mentioned has fallen.

It went from muckraker, to muck producer.

Very sad.

Again, I am so proud to support a free press!

From today's NY Times:

Inside Trump's Two-Year War On The Investigations Encircling Him

The story is complete with graphs, showing the number of overall attacks by Trump, then features additional graphs with breakdowns of his attacks on DOJ/FBI, James Comey, Obama administration, Hillary Clinton and the media.

It is enough to make a Trumpster weep.

Seriously, it looks like a list of Festivus grievances.

I encourage all to read.

Lara Logan, producer ordered to take leave in aftermath of '60 Minutes' Benghazi reporting scandal

...   CBS's internal sanction follows on-air apologies by both Logan and the show. This blemish on one of television's best-regarded investigative news programs began with an Oct. 27 report heavily based on the account by Dylan Davies of the September 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, Libya. The show said Davies would provide the first western eyewitness account of the attack, which left Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead...

...   After the "60 Minutes" report aired, it was revealed that Davies had given a conflicting story to the FBI, saying he was not on the scene. Subsequent reports cast further doubt on his story. An internal CBS investigation summarized by Al Ortiz, director of standards and practices, found that among other things, the Logan-McLellan team "did not sufficiently vet Davies' account of his own actions and whereabouts that night."...

Reading several news reports it seems to me that she believed her source who claimed to be there when he was not. He claimed to be giving an eye witness account when clearly that would be impossible.

Lara Logan also gave a speech a month before the Sixty Minutes report:

Quote

...   Logan is back in the headlines after a speech to 1,100 people gathered at the Better Government Association's annual luncheon in Chicago last Tuesday. She lashed out at the Obama administration, accusing it of lying about the strength of the Taliban in Afghanistan, and called for revenge attacks against the Libyan terrorists responsible for the killing of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, at the US consulate in Benghazi last month...
