I stopped contributing to media matters’ click counts years ago, so not sure what your link says.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if somewhere there is a hoax version.  However, the sources I first saw it on are reliable, and they say they got it from AOC’s website.

The video I posted above is from the lawyers and is professionally done.  Not too shocked that a pr firm may have done it.

A PR firm in which a Republican political operative is a partner.

I wouldn't be surprised if the firm took on Sandmann pro bono.

This is why I never read stuff on political blogs, left or right.

I get my news from the mainstream press; WaPo, NY Times, NPR, and to a lesser extent, NY Post.

I also never read stuff from so-called news organizations I have never heard of.

Russian trolls like to design sites that are designed to fool.

And people fall for it.

I am glad no one was arrested regarding this incident. Even the worst behaving racist Black Israelites only used hateful words against the students. It seems most discussion here has recently been about the media's coverage of the student and the drummer. (Seems that man had protested in inappropriate locations such as a Cathedral during Mass.) He seems to be a troublemaker, who served in the Marine Corps fixing refrigeration units during the Viet Nam war, NOT in Viet Nam. In the 1970s he was arrested many times for alcohol related crimes.

The student responded to "feeling singled out for a confrontation" by staring at him silently.

There was no physical violence.

By the time I was in high school my family and friends had experienced much more than he did. Even as a little kid with protective parents racist speech was directed at our family because we had White, Cherokee, and Negro family members by marriage and adoption.

We were Catholic, but unlike our cousins my sisters and I attended public school. Teachers made it clear that racist name calling was not OK, but it happened and we ignored it. (My Daddy taught in the one public high school in town.)

Coming to California at age 12 I started Jr. High, where most students were white and not prejudiced. Some were, but were well behaved at school. Walking two mile to and from  we were taunted with slurs and often rotten eggs and tomatoes were thrown at us. (I think because I had an Okie accent and was shy in the second week of school I was assigned to show a newer girl than I around. She was from Europe and spoke no English. She learned FAST. We are still friends. We were called the "Four Musketeers" being three White and one Negro.") We also had eggs and rotten food to clean off the porch by drive-by food throwers.

By high school I was attended meetings of SNCC, and SCLC protests for civil rights. I have an FBI file consisting of one photo of my Grandma, boyfriend at the time, a few dozen others, and me protesting in front of a real estate sign stating, "FOR SALE TO WHITE CHRISTIANS ONLY". Stuff and taunts were thrown at us that evening too. We did leave when asked by police.

In 2005 at a nurses demonstration for safe staffing ratios because the governor attempted to violate the law that took us 14 years to achieve I was standing at the back where I was loudly confronted by "Minute Men Civil Defense Project" and immigrant monitors. I should have ignored them, but answered when they asked, "Where were you born." I answered, In the United States. Then they began using slurs against Hispanics getting close to my face. I left then and got myself to the front.

In 2009 MANY people cursed me because I had an 8.5X11" paper printed with "MEDICARE FOR ALL". One young man was so upset he bent over and go close enough to my face that his face toughed my and as he yelled, "DO YOU WANT YOUR MOTHER TO HAVE A KIDNEY TRANSPLANT AT THE POST OFFICE?" he accidentally got lots of spit on my face. A man with a video camera was filming this. I said, "I will be happy to have a discussion with you, but not on camera while you are so upset." We did have a conversation after the media left. Turns out he was employed, but uninsured. Both his parents had received life saving care paid by all us taxpayers via Medicare. He had been bused to California from Arizona for this Town Hall meeting that didn't have room for all who lived in the Congress member's district.

I'm glad that young man had never experienced such illogical hate in person before.

Kentucky school closes for the day due to threats, safety concerns after viral video

PUBLISHED: JAN 22ND, 2019 - 12:47PM (EST) UPDATED: JAN 23RD, 2019 - 3:47AM (EST)

Rowe said the decision comes after meeting with local authorities about the safety of students, faculty and staff following a controversy surrounding video showing the students in an encounter with Native Americans at a rally near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C...

...   The initial video that began circulating over the weekend showed Covington Catholic student Nick Sandmann face-to-face with Nathan Phillips, an American Indian, Viet Nam era veteran and Omaha elder. The scene shows Sandmann and other Covington Catholic Colonels wearing "Make America Great Again" gear as they seemingly surrounded Phillips...

...   New video that plays for more than an hour and a half shows what happened before and after the first videos.

It shows Covington Catholic students doing school chants while others shout slurs at them which appear to come from the Hebrew Israelites. "This is a bunch of future school shooters," said one of the men appearing to be a Hebrew Israelite in the video. As the video progresses, you can also hear what appears to be a chaperone telling the students to move away and "back it up."...

Phillips has said that he stepped in to help break up the conflict. [Between the Black Israelites & the students]  After his arrival, some videos show students making tomahawk chop-like gestures during the encounter...

Full statement from Cov Cath/diocese:

"We condemn the actions of the Covington Catholic High School students towards Nathan Phillips specifically, and Native Americans in general, Jan. 18, after the March for Life, in Washington, D.C. We extend our deepest apologies to Mr. Phillips. This behavior is opposed to the Church's teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person. The matter is being investigated and we will take appropriate action, up to and including expulsion. We know this incident also has tainted the entire witness of the March for Life and express our most sincere apologies to all those who attended the March and all those who support the pro-life movement."  https://www.wthr.com/article/kentucky-school-closes-day-due-threats-safety-concerns-after-viral-video

Our Terms of Service (TOS) do not allow some of the quotes of what was said by the some Black Israelites so I will quote what I can. The link includes the entire statement that probably was written with assistance from the PR firm:

From the student's Statement

"I am providing this factual account of what happened on Friday afternoon at the Lincoln Memorial to correct misinformation and outright lies being spread about my family and me...

...    I arrived at the Lincoln Memorial at 4:30 p.m. I was told to be there by 5:30 p.m., when our busses were due to leave Washington for the trip back to Kentucky. We had been attending the March for Life rally, and then had split up into small groups to do sightseeing.

When we arrived, we noticed four African American protestors who were also on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. I am not sure what they were protesting, and I did not interact with them. I did hear them direct derogatory insults at our school group. The protestors said hateful things...

...   Because we were being loudly attacked and taunted in public, a student in our group asked one of our teacher chaperones for permission to begin our school spirit chants to counter the hateful things that were being shouted at our group. The chants are commonly used at sporting events. They are all positive in nature and sound like what you would hear at any high school. Our chaperone gave us permission to use our school chants. We would not have done that without obtaining permission from the adults in charge of our group.

At no time did I hear any student chant anything other than the school spirit chants. I did not witness or hear any students chant "build that wall" or anything hateful or racist at any time. Assertions to the contrary are simply false. Our chants were loud because we wanted to drown out the hateful comments that were being shouted at us by the protestors.

After a few minutes of chanting, the Native American protestors, who I hadn't previously noticed, approached our group. The Native American protestors had drums and were accompanied by at least one person with a camera.

The protestor everyone has seen in the video began playing his drum as he waded into the crowd, which parted for him. I did not see anyone try to block his path. He locked eyes with me and approached me, coming within inches of my face. He played his drum the entire time he was in my face.

I never interacted with this protestor. I did not speak to him. I did not make any hand gestures or other aggressive moves. To be honest, I was startled and confused as to why he had approached me. We had already been yelled at by another group of protestors, and when the second group approached I was worried that a situation was getting out of control where adults were attempting to provoke teenagers.

I believed that by remaining motionless and calm, I was helping to diffuse the situation. I realized everyone had cameras and that perhaps a group of adults was trying to provoke a group of teenagers into a larger conflict. I said a silent prayer that the situation would not get out of hand.

During the period of the drumming, a member of the protestor's entourage began yelling at a fellow student that we "stole our land" and that we should "go back to Europe." I heard one of my fellow students begin to respond. I motioned to my classmate and tried to get him to stop engaging with the protestor, as I was still in the mindset that we needed to calm down tensions.

I never felt like I was blocking the Native American protestor. He did not make any attempt to go around me. It was clear to me that he had singled me out for a confrontation, although I am not sure why.

The engagement ended when one of our teachers told me the busses had arrived and it was time to go. I obeyed my teacher and simply walked to the busses. At that moment, I thought I had diffused the situation by remaining calm, and I was thankful nothing physical had occurred.

I never understood why either of the two groups of protestors were engaging with us, or exactly what they were protesting at the Lincoln Memorial. We were simply there to meet a bus, not become central players in a media spectacle. This is the first time in my life I've ever encountered any sort of public protest, let alone this kind of confrontation or demonstration.

I was not intentionally making faces at the protestor. I did smile at one point because I wanted him to know that I was not going to become angry, intimidated or be provoked into a larger confrontation. I am a faithful Christian and practicing Catholic, and I always try to live up to the ideals my faith teaches me - to remain respectful of others, and to take no action that would lead to conflict or violence.

I harbor no ill will for this person. I respect this person's right to protest and engage in free speech activities, and I support his chanting on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial any day of the week. I believe he should re-think his tactics of invading the personal space of others, but that is his choice to make.

I am being called every name in the book, including a racist, and I will not stand for this mob-like character assassination of my family's name. My parents were not on the trip, and I strive to represent my family in a respectful way in all public settings.

I have received physical and death threats via social media, as well as hateful insults. One person threatened to harm me at school, and one person claims to live in my neighborhood. My parents are receiving death and professional threats because of the social media mob that has formed over this issue.

I love my school, my teachers and my classmates. I work hard to achieve good grades and to participate in several extracurricular activities. I am mortified that so many people have come to believe something that did not happen - that students from my school were chanting or acting in a racist fashion toward African Americans or Native Americans. I did not do that, do not have hateful feelings in my heart, and did not witness any of my classmates doing that.

I cannot speak for everyone, only for myself. But I can tell you my experience with Covington Catholic is that students are respectful of all races and cultures. We also support everyone's right to free speech.

I am not going to comment on the words or account of Mr. Phillips, as I don't know him and would not presume to know what is in his heart or mind. Nor am I going to comment further on the other protestors, as I don't know their hearts or minds, either.

I have read that Mr. Phillips is a veteran of the United States Marines. I thank him for his service and am grateful to anyone who puts on the uniform to defend our nation. If anyone has earned the right to speak freely, it is a U.S. Marine veteran. I can only speak for myself and what I observed and felt at the time. But I would caution everyone passing judgement based on a few seconds of video to watch the longer video clips that are on the internet, as they show a much different story than is being portrayed by people with agendas. I provided this account of events to the Diocese of Covington so they may know exactly what happened, and I stand ready and willing to cooperate with any investigation they are conducting."..

As always, I happy to help my friends on the other side gather all the facts.

I wonder if Daisy and dude are aware, the Sandmann, the smirking Covington Catholic student, had a PR firm handle his side of the story.

Yes, indeed.

His parents hired the Louisville public relations firm, Runswitch, to do damage control on his behalf.

I wonder if Daisy and dude know, that Scott Jennings, the conservative political commentator, is a partner in Runswitch.

I wonder if the realize that public relations firms, do indeed have an agenda.

Their sole purpose is to sway public opinion.

I believe Scott Jennings has fairly close ties to Mitch McConnell.

Hey, does anybody know if Mr. Phillips has retained a PR firm to get out his side of the story?

Yes, Daisy, facts are a wonderful thing, aren't they?

Yes, I've known about that since it happened and was reported.  It is old news really.

The young man was getting death threats, people (Kathy Griffin's response was appalling) wanted to put his and other students home addresses on the internet (doxing, which I'd never heard of), I did read that the addresses were put online, there was a bomb threat.  Not to mention the Disney producer who thought MAGA kids should go through a woodchipper.  My family works in the woods and I know what a wood chipper does.  The "cartoon" accompanying this is horrible.

https://www.rt.com/usa/449368-disney-producer-threatens-maga-kids/

The school closed down due to threats of violence.

Some in the media started this mess.  Then others weighed in.  It is a mess.

If this were my kid, I'd be getting myself a PR firm and a lawyer, toute de suite.

If folks don't like how some of the Sandy Hook kids were treated, then regardless of political viewpoint or opinion, these kids should not be treated badly either.

herring . . . I am aware of your history as you've shared it here before.  And I've always been very proud of you and appreciate your life and willingness to share it here.  You live in my state and the issues you dealt with I am well aware of before meeting you so I'm grateful for your eyewitness accounts.  Especially of the nurse/mandate issue.

I still think that even if a person feels threatened only one time in their entire lives and it doesn't involve the same kinds of horrible things you had to experience, it should still be taken seriously.

Thanks also for mentioning that Nathan Phillips has some credibility issues.

Thank you Spidey's Mom!

I was never beat up. The only fracture I had was a finger FX playing vollyball and lots of skins and scrapes like most kids.

I did see young men hit, punched, knocked down, and such at civil rights events. The police who politely asked me and Grandma to leave threatened some young men. My then boyfriend, who is now a wealthy real estate developer, had run before the police got out of their cars.

I think it interesting that just five years later I read in the paper that the first Black to buy a house in that formerly all White wealthy area was a young attorney named Johnny Cochran.

Spidey's Mom remembers that my Daddy was a classical and jass trumpeter. He also was in the University of Michigan marching bans when he attended on the GI bill.

Before I was born he traveled doing one night stands with the Gene Krupa band sitting next to his idol and life long friend the great Roy Eldridge. Roy was the star and only Negro. My Dad was the good looking black haired White trumpet player sitting next to him in the video. Notice the band bowing when Roy hits a high note.

When they traveled in the South many towns they played had no hotel for colored people. Music lovers invited Roy and my Dad, as his roommate, went too. They ate with the family. Both Roy and my Dad said the food was always great, except my Dad never liked grits.

The Sandy Hook kids died.

The Covington Catholic kids are all alive and well.

There is no comparison between the two groups.

Frankly, I don't see how anybody can compare the victims of gun violence to the Covington Catholic kids.

For someone quick to point out personal attacks, you're sure good at dishing them out.

Who and what is this in reference to?

I have absolutely no problem attacking someone who has attacked me.

And I certainly won't apologize for that.

On the other hand, when others treat me respectfully, I also treat them respectfully.

But from your quote, I have no idea what you are referencing.

Please come back to me when I single out just one poster, and repeatedly call them pathetic, sad, angry, a braggart and tell them to get overthemselves.
