What Did You Do Or Treat Yourself Today? - page 3

Hello All.... So today I finally decided to return the Nutribullet at Target that I got from my sister and got me a much cheaper blender and a new pair of socks. So I took it home and I then... Read More

NEB here, I am the baloney most likely to play in libraries or playgrounds with ALL the kids (not just mine). Usually, by the end of my playtime, there are multiple children calling me grandma and engaging me for a chase, a tickle, or just an acknowledgement while their parents look at their phones.

Just yesterday, as I played and ignored my phone, a friend was trying desperately to contact me with a health concern. I had no idea and felt terrible that I had missed her calls.

But the playtime was really important.

I think more men need to play with young children as part of their emotional health. 2 and 3 year olds play with a purity that is inspiring and rejuvenating.

I just wish my knees worked better.

I do admit to an admiration for 3 and 4 year old kids' MINDS, I think they are very engaging in that respect. . .but at ages before and after that, not so much.

My niece used to want me to play with her, but I always felt a detachment to the things she wanted to play. Pretty inadequate, in fact. I did, though, write and illustrate a few stories for her. ('Freezing Franny', and 'If I Never Grew Up')

Playing 'tea party' or playing with dolls eluded me when I was a child. I'd watch my friend dress, re-dress, feed burp, and change her dolls over and over. I dressed mine once and set her aside. And oh boy,I just HATED the games that were played at birthday parties; relay races like running with a balloon, to a chair to sit on the balloon and break it....particularly excruciating!
As a kid, my favorite things were climbing trees, and reading. I also drew maps of how to get around different parts of town without being seen. Not very participatory pastimes.

Apply this to yesterday: I fed the barn cats wet cat food (they each got a can). I am often told not to feed them so much, because supposedly they won't do their job and kill rodents.

But I believe they need to work on their winter weight, since they live outside year round.

Going over to the house next door shortly; our neighbors have moved out and they've left a sectional sofa and a kitchen table with chairs, which they will let us have just for moving them over to our house (a task which we will have one week to accomplish) We are sorely in need of a new(er) sofa, and the table and chairs offered will take up a lot less space in our small kitchen than the round table and barrel-style chairs we have now.
    It's like Christmas!

    Quote from toomuchbaloney
We are going to the movie theater.
And while you are there...will you be seeing a movie? Or do you just go to sit in the theater lobby and eat popcorn and watch people? (I know how you folks from out in the boonies are)

We watched Blade Runner, it was disappointing, IMHO. People watching is rarely disappointing.

I'd read reviews of this second Blade Runner, and they (you know "they") said it was much better than the first. Of course, I don't think I've ever watched the original, so . . .

People watching can be downright astonishing sometimes!

I finally purchased my own copy of the David McCollough biography of John Adams. I will now be able to highlight noteworthy passages. Very exciting (to me).

Today we got rid of the old sofa, kitchen table and 4 chairs that go with it. We rearranged the 2 rooms, and placed a new-to-us, 2nd hand leather sectional-sofa of light tan in the living room. The kitchen table and four chairs (also 2nd hand) in the kitchen now really brighten things up with a light colored wood frame and white tile on the top of the table; that's where the afternoon sun comes in. NICE!
