My sister lives in PA and she texted this morning with a picture of snow covering her (still-blooming) rose bushes! I'm in New England, so I get to enjoy the snow during my drive home tonight Enjoy the day! I bet it looks lovely.
Ugh, yes. Just North of Boston here and I get to drive my son and daughter to various sports activities that will NOT get cancelled tonight, because why would they?!

I am really hoping our district holds out for as long as possible this year. They have only built in two days and the rest will need to be made up on Saturdays. If staff cannot come on a Saturday, it will be an UNPAID day of leave. Totally happened last year when I had to take two unpaid Saturdays because my DD had a cheer competition and I could n;t some in to make up the snow days on the Saturdays they were scheduled.

uggg - thats awful - do kids come on the Saturdays? It has probably been a good 5 years since our last big ice storm where we were out a week; thankfully we only had to use our make up days that were built into the calendar and the district filed for some kind of waiver from the state to excuse the others.

Here in Arkansas, the DoEd has made what is called AMI (alternative method of instruction) days. The teachers either make up a 5 day hard copy packet of work or give electronic work saved to Google classroom. We apply at the first of the year for these 5 days and if granted we do not have to make up unexpected days off for snow, etc. It is GREAT!!!

Yes the kids come. They say "at least half the student body has to come in for the day to count". We try to make it a fun day for the kids, so even more annoying because they aren't even learning anything.

The district where my own kids go are using "blizzard bags" for the first time this year. I am so happy they are doing this. I wish my school where I work would do the same.

Are parents on board with this? I'd be of of one of those parents that would not make my kid go to school on a Saturday - LOL.
