Oh, and I'm addicted to coffee. I used to drink DIET DR PEPPER (stares at NSIME) but I cut it out. Maybe 4 or 5 a week.

Coffee. I get SO excited about my morning coffee.

For the past 3 days I have been feeding my family like crap trying to get the bad stuff out of the freezer.

It's almost gone...

I like how this post is morphing into a 'helpful hints' type post. We NEED this kind of supportive help.

A scant liquid egg white in my super oatmeal is NOT taste-able. I just prepare everything the same - a little less water.

If you're wanting to clear out the cupboards, gather up the pasta, stovetop stuffing, cake mix, cannned goods, etc and donate it to a food bank. They'll be starting to collect for holiday distributions about now.

One year my 2 sisters and I received holiday turkeys from our employers. We also received the 'free turkey' promotion from our local grocery stores as did my parents. So we had 7 huge turkeys for Thanksgiving. We donated them to a local food/soup kitchen.

As an aside - I find it ironic that in this land of plenty, so many have too much while too many don't have enough.

Oh, you add the egg white to your oatmeal? Doesnt' that make it gummy?

I used to donate my work turkey as well.

Oh ME TOO! Having some right now. Yum. Clears the spiderwebs from my brain too.

I got rid of the regular pasta and replaced it, secretly, with the low-carb pasta which cooks up and tastes just the same as regular dried pasta. My husband is diabetic so I do things that he isn't aware of and hope that counter-balances all his bad choices.

I just read about Billy Graham's son-in-law dying from drowning in the pool. His medical history after being diagnosed with diabetes as an adult is scary though. It affected his eyesight, kidneys, heart, etc.

Maybe I should send it to my husband via email? :sarcastic: Naw . . . . he'll just ignore it.

I like the idea of cleaning out the pantry though - I gave the pasta and other stuff to our local food pantry.

To Farawyn - NOT gummy. For a single serve oatmeal, I put in the equivalent of a scant one serving liquid egg white portion (3 tbsp) from the carton. In 2 minutes, 30 seconds microwave, SUPER OATMEAL! I also put a spoon of powdered protein in the concoction to really super charge it. I use blue Equal.

Also, just love using Land O' Lakes lite butter with canola oil. It's a 50% butter substitute. I'm liking it better than butter. I think even Paula Deen would like it altho it DOES NOT work well to use for direct sautéing/frying in the pan. But to add it to my oatmeal or on vegs, it's fine.

To Spidey's Mom - TY for thinking food pantry. My dedicated charity for years has been a local soup kitchen. I get their newsletter - it so saddens me that the needs for their "nutritionally challenged" service population has expanded from one community center to 5 outreach kitchens.

I learned from a diet group to avoid the pitfalls of unnecessary and oh, so tempting pantry items by purging the pantry every now & then. (There's a box of cake mix and 2 cans pie fillings calling to me from my closet RIGHT NOW as I type.)

I will have to try it. I think I did something like that once with apple cinnamon weight watchers oatmeal and it was sweet, but the egg made it less so.

Oh, so you buy the carton of egg whites!

I am doing better with the fitness part lately more so than the food. Bringing my son down to college and trying to play catch up with work this week has thrown me off track. I'm not going whole hog, but I am drinking wine, which doesn't help. *sip*

One of our hospice volunteers runs our local food pantry. Spidey went there a few days ago to help his youth group leader with organizing the pantry. They worked together for two hours with the other ladies.

Every church in the valley has a box at the entrance for donations to this food pantry. And the church bulletin has the needs for the food pantry.

To Farawyn - yes, it's the liquid carton egg whites. Just buy a GOOD brand. I use it to SUPPLEMENT in egg dishes. Just watch the expiration (GOOD FOR 2 WEEKS AFTER OPENING) and keep it refrig.

I need 1 whole egg for scrambled eggs (I need the yellow color & yolk taste, too.) But only 1 scrambled egg wasn't enough and still left me HUNGRY. So I have used the liq whites to substitute for another 2nd egg and I feel satisfied. I use the liq egg whites in other recipes. Like meatloaf = 1 real egg and liq white; same for cake mix. The liq whites svg provides 25/5 calories/protein Gm. No cholesterol.

You know, it isn't much of a dietary coupe de grace but it does help one's psyche/mind set to be making a small helpful change. And I need the protein. I had to start up the diet again for my reasons.

It's well documented in the literature that many obese pts are malnourished (albeit oxymoronic sounding!). Also vit B12 and D deficient WITH the protein deficiency. Anything to bump up my diet in a safe, UNSTUPID way. I'm still experimenting.

*makes a face about 'diet' soda*

My pot of coffee is just finishing its brew cycle as I type this. So, see ya later; I've got some serious coffee drinking to do!

And it ain't even my morning coffee! Yet, I am excited, too!
