Country Music Legend Kenny Rogers Dies at 81

I remember singing songs with my children especially when he and Dolly Parton did, "Islands in the Stream".

May he be at peace now.

I remember we used to sing, "You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel."  and we'd laugh and laugh. Also, we said that "Islands In The Stream" was about Dolly Parton in the water, floating on her back. Don't reckon either one of those memories is singular to just us, though! We really enjoyed his music.

Sad he's gone, but glad he had Hospice and his family with him. If ya gotta go, that's one of the better ways to do it.

How cute, NSIME.

I liked Kenny Rogers too. Wasn't he the one who sang about getting the gun off the wall and shooting 3 brothers who assaulted his sister?

Actor Lyle Waggoner also died last week or so. He was like a 3rd banana sidekick (with Tim Conway & Harvey Korman) on Carol Burnett's show and also on Wonder Woman with Lynda Carter. He did guest shots on Fantasy Island/Love Boat too.

I liked him, esp when he did a Rhett Butler to Scarlet O'Hara (Carol Burnett). Y'all might remember the scene with CB wearing a big curtain rod with green drapes hanging on her shoulders.  It flashes up every now & then on TV ads. It was funny as all get out.

I thought he was good looking in a too good looking way.

RIP, LW & KR.

I had no idea Lyle Wagner was gone, @amoLucia.

Yes, I do remember him doing the skits as Rhett. I immediately had flashbacks about the green drapes. HAHAHAHAAHA! And, yes, he was a very nice looking man.

The song you are talking about is Coward of the County (it was his girlfriend).

I remembered the song after I posted. And I couldn't think of Vickie Lawrence for CB show either until later.

It's not nice to say this but, KR had one of the worst face lifts I ever saw. He went silver-grey and was rugged-looking, but later ...

That fuzzy look - fits the big, tall, Southern and fuzzy characteristics that the heroine of the our Collective Novella likes. 😍

Worse than Kenny's facelift was Mickey Rourke's.

Did Kenny and or his original group sing "Don't Take Your Gun To Town"?

'Ruby, don't take your love to town', I believe was the name of the song.

NSIME - I don't know when you're just joshing about the song name or were really asking.

I was asking. Maybe you can't tell if I'm joshing or not because I keep a straight face when I type and post.

Other folks have told me that, too, in other circumstances.   😑

But there IS a song with the line, "Don't take your gun to town, son, leave your gun at home (Bill?), don't take your gun to town...."
