Janet Reno, first female US attorney general, dies at 78

(CNN)Janet Reno, former US attorney general under President Bill Clinton, died Monday morning following a long battle with Parkinson's disease, her sister Maggy Hurchalla said. She was 78.

Reno, the nation's first-ever female attorney general, served in the Clinton White House from 1993 to 2001.

I always admired her, and while I think that the Branch Davidian response was a fiasco I particularly admired her willingness to accept all responsibility. By far, she was the most principled member of Mr. Clinton's cabinet.

Requiescat in pace Ms. Reno, and prayers to her family.

I really liked her. I was sorry to hear of her death.

Nothing like admiring a person who killed many innocent children.

I don't suppose you've ever heard of the Danforth report?

That's immaterial the Federal Government should not have instigated it in the first place.

Wait let me guess.

He/she doesn't find that to be a credible read.

Am I right?

The government didn't instigate anything -- David Koresh did, and was the individual responsible for the deaths of the children and other victims.

She was a true "iron lady" who led one of the most honorable of American institutions, the FBI. She was smart and tough and she did a good job. Waco was a tragedy because it was handled badly, but it wasn't directly her fault. It was the fault of the field officers calling the shots--they made a series of bad choices and lots of people needlessly lost their lives. A shame that Reno's name will always be associated with the horror of Waco rather than her accomplishments.
