Why are the people most likely to consume fake news also the same people to be confused as to what fake news really is?

Well, it has been said that there are 'no stupid questions', but I am of the opinion that that is a stupid remark, no question about it.

When I was in college I formed The Stupid Club. It started when one girl in the dorm was soooo mad at her boyfriend she went out in the quad and bit a tree (you read it right!) thereby chipping a front tooth; another girl answered the payphone, then went to get the person it was for...meanwhile a guy noticed the phone off the hook and picked it up and proceeded to shock and offend the mother of whomever the call was for'; he just didn't think before he picked the phone up. There are other examples of stupidity but suffice it to say, members were allowed to yell to each other across campus: "HEY STUPID!" I put notices in the student bulletin, things like : "As usual there will be no meeting of The Stupid Club on the second Wednesday of this week. Please mark it on your calendar!"

Doncha think that sounds like fun?

Well, as I suppose that it would be stupid to HIRE somebody, it is entirely possible, don't you think?
