You are reading page 6 of Has AN got boring or is it just me?. If you want to start from the beginning Go to First Page.

There don't seem to be any good threads on here for discussion/argument. Or is it just me?

Yeah, the discussion isn't always what you'd like to see.

I'm thinking of posting that I am refusing to take blood pressures in the right arm for religious reasons and insist my fellow nurses take all vital signs on my patients with "no lab no draw" on their left arm just to watch people jump to the defense of a crazy belief.

That usually gets a good ruckus going.

Not really surprised you're not familiar :), I'm a prolific reader, rare poster :) Although I frequently contemplate rising out of obscurity

Not quite sure why the warning either, but it was an extensive, well written warning nonetheless

I find the warning depend on who's offended....

Saw the first one of the season just today . . . oh God . . .let it not be so ... :banghead:

Also heralds the onset of "do you drive to work in a snowstorm?" Those are always fun.

Carol, I agree with you. In my case it might be that I'm missing some interesting posts since I've decided not to read most of the ever-increasing number of threads titled "hellllp", "heeeelp", "helpppp", "hellp meeeeeeee" (oops no that last one was from the original "The Fly" movie(1958))

It bugs me not because I don't get to read the post, but that you really can't miss this:

Enter a Descriptive Title:__________________________________________________ right next to where you put your title means that you either didn't read an instruction (bad), you don't know what descriptive means (bad), or you read it, understood it, and didn't give a rat's rear-end so you went ahead with your plan to title your thread that way regardless(bad).

Irrelevant to the topic, but those headlines bug the heck out of me. One of my biggest pet peeves in the world of typed word is emphasis on the wrong letter/syllable to draw out a word.

People need to read it back to themselves:

Heeeeeeelp. That one is ok.

Hellllllllllllp. Looks ugly, but still can work.

Helpppppp. "Help-puh-puh-puh-puh-puh?"

I will eat my shoe the day that someone actually posts "I need advice." 99.99999% of the time it's:

I NEED ADVISE !!!!!!

Unforgivable.

You beat me to it! I had the post ready to quote. :) Dang you.

Overexposure of some posters. I don't need to know what someone thinks about every single solitary thread topic. It gets boring.

Right. Very irritating when you notice that someone has had no response to their thread, so they decide to start 3 or 4 more threads within the same day. Perhaps no one has responded because we don't care.

I wish the moderators would move all of the student, wanna be nurses, MA and CNA posts to the right forum. I am tired of reading of the idealistic views of newbies, and the whining that goes along with them. Usually the first five words in their posts give them away, and then I dont read any further. I want to connect and have pertinent discussions with my peers.

Ever looked at cafepharma? talk about uncensored!

As someone who did moderation for this site for a short time I can tell you there are a LOT of posts and moderators don't get paid to sell their time to moving posts around. I think for the most part the moderators here are some of the most consistent, competent volunteers of any forum board.

@Tait-I appreciate that someone volunteers to moderate this site, and there are a lot of posts, however, this is "all nurses" . CNA's, MA's, and student nurses are not at present, "nurses" (which has been argued as-nauseum on this forum -but I digress). Upon registration, if someone says they are not a registered nurse, then, let them look, but, please allow them to only post on the appropriate board.

Just saying....

May LPNs?

I would not want to exclude anyone but I do agree that the starry-eyed stuff gets old, particularly as a lot of the moderation, IMO, is to keep everybody happy, which is simply not possible. As a result, we get a watered-down site geared to the least common denominator.

The big thing for me, though, is the "new" format. It's just difficult to navigate with too many subfora, even (maybe especially) in Central. It's no longer possible to come in and just browse everything.

We try to do just that, we really do. But there are hundreds of new posts every day and we don't catch them all. If you see a student post or thread in what you think is a wrong forum, please, report it. This helps us a lot.

If any of you have a beef with a staff action, talk to us about it. We're not going to please everyone with our moderating actions, and we know that. But we are open to respectful dissent.

The one thing that I don't think members get is that discussing staff actions publicly is against the Terms of Service. Not because we are evil gargoyles or delicate flowers, but because, a) it's in the Terms of Service, and, b) moderation actions are a private matter between the member and the staff.

Sometimes it isn't the one post that that invited staff attention and action but the accumulation of a number of posts that show a pattern of disrespect or some other problem. We usually give people warnings unless something is blatantly over the line. But if someone repeatedly bumps the same line over and over, that "one post" that maybe wouldn't be that big a deal by itself becomes a last straw kind of thing that shows us the member isn't taking our warnings seriously.

We also get multiple reports at times about posts that cross the line. This is the membership objecting. If they're barking up the wrong tree we'll explain that the post is all right and they should place the poster on ignore if they don't want to read their stuff. But if something's on the line, so to speak, the fact that other posters found it objectionable carries some weight.

Moderating actions can be annoying and infuriating if you don't understand or you disagree. We are open to discussion in the Help Desk (only Brian and top five admins see this area) and via the report buttons which take a post to the staff forums. You can also PM staff members directly. We'll gladly consider your viewpoint and get back to you.

I'm living proof that staff members take this seriously. Before I joined the staff, I disagreed with having a thread shut down shut down after two members had a spat and pointed out that the sparring posters had resolved their differences on the next page. I got a gracious PM in reply and the thread was reopened.

If anyone has complaints about staff or moderation, please, contact us privately and don't discuss your gripes and further in this thread.

Thanks.
