SO, did anyone see the movie?? I thought it was HORRIBLE!!!! :angryfire Don't want to spoil it for anyone, but I'd definately say if you like the books, and the way that J.K. Rowling wrote the plot, this will be a disappointment.

Any other thoughts/comments?

Saw it today and found it very boring. Maybe kids (under 10) will like it but it doesn't hold an adult's attention (which the first 2 did, at least with me). Maybe it's because there is really no villan this time.

Boy, am I glad I'm reading this, we just saw The day after tommorrow or what ever it's called and it was very exhausting watching it. We were going to go see harry potter tommorrow but now we'll see Shrek!

Saw the "Day After Tomorrow" and I had to stifle laughter - boy are they right about how many laws of physics can you break in one movie!!!!!

Just got back from seeing it, and while I liked it, they cut SOOOOO much out! I wish they'd just have stayed true to the book and let it be a longer movie, instead of trying to condense it so that the 6-year-olds in the audience could sit still. JMHO!

Hey guys, my boyfriend is taking me to see it today since I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan! I gotta tell ya though, these reviews are kind of bumming me out. I saw an interview with JK Rowling and she said she thought it was very true to the book so.... I guess I will just have to make up my own mind. :p What I would love to know is....when is the next book coming out, ALREADY??? I am getting Harry Potter DT's! :p

Wow, did we all see the same movie???? :chuckle

I thoroughly enjoyed it, more than "Chamber of Secrets". Yes, there were large chunks of the book which were omitted, but by my watch the movie was over 2 hours long as it was, so I'm not sure how much more could be included and still make it watchable, especially for kids. I was pleased that it wasn't nearly as "dark" as early reviews suggested.

It also passed muster with my 10-year old dd, who is a walking Harry Potter encyclopedia.

I highly recommend it! :)

I have read all the books, and can't wait for the next one. I did NOT think that the movie was true to the book, LOADS of info was omitted, and the plot was changed. The pivotal scene in the end was NOT the same in the book as in the movie. I was disappointed. Very disappointed. The actors did a fine job, as usual, but I did NOT like the plot. I would have rather had a 3 hour movie than a 2 hour movie that did not stay true to the book. I'm surprised that J.K. Rowling liked this movie. It didn't do her creativity any justice, IMO.

Also, there were lots of kids who left the theater crying, saying it wasn't right, they didn't like it, etc. I was peeved. I have already written Warner Bros. myself. :D

Another thing...

While I did enjoy the movie for the most part, one of the things that bugged me the most was the end. It ended on almost a HAPPY note, whereas the book was a big downer. Why does everything have to be all HAPPY in Hollywood?!?! Harry was downright depressed in the book, upset that he wouldn't get to spend time with his godfather after all these years, angry tht he had to go back to the Dursleys, extremely worried about Sirius - and in the movie he's LAUGHING at the end!!!

One of the reasons the 3rd and 4th books were so good was becuase they had that "Empire Strikes Back" quality to them - they ended on an off note, with Harry scared and depressed, so much going on that's not resolved, things more complicated than ever, etc. I wish they'd left that theme alone.

It's sad to read that the movie did not stay true to the book. But, that's movie-making for you. . .

As for me? Never read the books. The last set of books I read (besides nursing and health-related text books) had to do with the Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy series. . . decades ago. :imbar But since I didn't read any of the Harry Potter books, I had nothing to compare the movie to except the previous two movies.

I loved the movie. Had some interesting twists and turns. Plan on seeing it again! :)

But I can understand the disappointment if one read all of the books and the movie makers took "extra liberties" in making the film. . .

I am so glad I am not the only one!!!! I love the books! I was a little disappointed in the movie last night though, they left out some REALLY important parts, like an explanation of the map. It was a fairly good movie, but I dont think that people who have not read the books are going to truly understand a lot of it, like Malfoy he is such a prat in the books but was more a sniveling cry baby in this movie, and it almost appeared as if Harry and Co. were picking on him!

For those of you true HP freaks out there, have you seen JK Rowling's new website? http://www.jkrowling.com it is awesome even if you don't like HP the site itself is really well put together and fun.
