Good Morning!

Ted, hope that work was "Q" and you had a good shift (if you didn't get put on call) and that you enjoyed the family meal and got some rest.

Joe, hope you had a good Thanksgiving.  Bummer you have to make a work call on your days off.

Herring, that fellow definitely has a problem and it's probably good he didn't stay to disrupt things further.  But nice he was invited.

Stars, hope you had a good day, despite everything.  I meant to say glad Nannie didn't get hurt this time.

Diana sounds like a good time with the "kids".

AmoLucia, congrats on the weight loss.  That's a stunning loss.

I had a good day yesterday.  Best friend joined me and the family for dinner.  The buffet did not disappoint, lots of good good of a wide variety.  I had a bit of everything, prime rib, turkey, ham, shrimp, omelet, pasta, bacon, sausage, even Thai curried curried turkey, salads, cheese and dessert.  Dad paid for everyone which was nice.

Best friend lives across the street and we stopped by for conversation.  Dad told some stories of his Vietnam War days that I hadn't heard before.  I'm reminded how some of the harrowing situations he was in and how lucky he was to make it out alive.  He's never been too talkative about those days.  He's also getting hard of hearing.

Mom was telling me that she has no friends because they all have died.  Women I've known all my life are dead.  The last was the neighbor across the street who moved in at around the same time we did in 1966.  She said it with more amazement than this has happened, rather than a lot of sadness, but the tinge of sadness of was there.  She's not inclined to get out and try to make new friends anymore either.  She seems okay and said she isn't lonely because she has papa (my father).  She's already said if he dies, she'd move to Florida but must have her own place.

I think having these conversations made me a little blue and had some anxiety after I was alone.  Took a sleeping pill because I was a bit restless.  Slept pretty decently thank goodness.

Today is my usual Friday off and it's "wash the sheets Friday" and that is being done.  Having coffee and going to do the usual routine to get ready for the routine at work.

Scale is not kind and I might try to join the weight loss crew.  But really only about 4  pounds more than I usually am.  We'll see what yesterdays indulgence does but hope to work it off.  I can see the four pounds around my middle.

Morning Tweety, I could see how that conversation could cause some sadness.  I think a lot of us have gained this week, it's part of weight loss to have setbacks

Woke up late, probably ower went on and off several times around 4am and woke me up for a while.

Yesterday was nice. Got out for a nearly 2 mile hike before going to my cousin's for Thanksgiving.  Smaller group than Christmas but glad some of the older family members were able to make it in spite of poor health

Skipping Black Friday sales, going to do grocery shopping instead.  Since I have the day off (except for that one call) I'll head out for a hike too.  Might stop at a local bookstore if it's not too crazy there

Meeting J at one of our usual places tonight

Well, plans to go to the apple ranch have been scuttled.  Dh contacted the owner who said to stay away.  They have no electricity, there are downed tree branches everywhere, and the roads are impassable because of branches, ice, and snow.  So we will sit tight here.  I have some sewing to do on the Dickens-era costume so will do that.  Perhaps we can practice with fiddler.

Good to see you all, Happy Day-After Thanksgiving (and no, I do not intend to get out for Black Friday.  Nope, Nope, NOPE!).

Good morning Tweety, Dianah, Joe, No Stars, BCgradnurse, and ALLNURSES!

I'm going to the convention today and working the blood drive tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to the panel on Asimov's book, "Second Foundation". I reread it this month as I was nine when I read it before. I sure understood more this time. Fun!

Good Morning. We had a pleasant, and exhausting day yesterday. I finished cleaning the house in the morning and then commenced cooking with dh. We had turkey cooked on the Weber BBQ, BBQ salmon, ham, mashed potatoes with leeks, gravy, dressing, scalloped corn (family tradition), green bean casserole, and rolls. I finally got to sit down after dinner and worked on a jigsaw puzzle, another family tradition. Then pie (apple, cherry, or pumpkin). Dh and youngest grandson made the pumpkin filling and accidentally dropped in a whole nutmeg. That made for a spicy surprise! I made the mistake of having a small glass of red wine after dinner, and it didn't play nice with one of my medications. I got super sleepy and had trouble concentrating on our card game that we always play. Grandkids spent another night, 'cuz their mom had to go to work early, and I offered to let them stay and sleep late. I introduced them to the pleasure of pie for breakfast! We don't usually shop Black Friday, either, although we may go to the Arts Fair. Weather is clear and crisp, and thankfully the cold wind that blew for 2 days has calmed down.

I am thankful for living in a beautiful area, having my family living close, and a snug roof over our head. And I am thankful for the lovely people on this forum who share snippets of their life and allow us to celebrate the highs and commiserate on the woes.

Was so exhausted after yesterday afternoon and evening, that I went to bed at midnight and fell asleep immediately; slept solidly until 11 AM. Boy did I need that! Because right away today Nannie started in on some more gobbeldly-gook tales that never, ever happened. Long, droning, boring and astonishing, serpentine narratives.

There are stories of a woman falling and being taken to the hospital and dying. Also that she (Nannie) had been hit by the football during the game and they wanted her to go to the hospital, but she wouldn't go. "When you play a hard game like that, it takes everything out of you." Some c/o pain in her right side this AM when she moves certain ways.

It seems contemplation of her mortality are coming out all through her thoughts and dreams.

The passive-aggressive polite Southern-Lady is prominent, too. When she was sitting there all bunched up, hubby asked if she was cold and could she use a blanket; OF COURSE her reply was,
"Kind of, but don't worry about me." She also would not take up the offer to help her get dressed so she would be warmer.

Sooooooo, same-old, same-old.

Forgot to add that yesterday I did a load of laundry and midway through loading the washer, I had to go visit mother nature. Nannie decided, while I was in the bathroom, that she would 'help' me and poured too much bleach into the little bleach-cup at the top of the tub, thereby ended up splashing a lot of it into the washer, which not so nicely added a HUGE bleached spot on my only good (tan) jeans. Now I only have one pair of cruddy bluejeans and two pair of chinos. Here's something I haven't said in a while....OH WELL!

Black Friday is pretty overcast, though it is rumored the sun will come out a little bit later on.

My New Year's Resolution (!!!) is to not be so engulfed by Nannie's suffocating presence. How that will be accomplished, I hope God will help me figure out. So far, when I ask for patience, I get more opportunities to practice it. I do well until a certain point and then BZZZZT! I lose it.

"Man plans, God laughs."

I'm going to try to keep the day-to-day Nannie aggravations out of here and only post if major happenings occur. I don't know about you guys, but I am thoroughly sick of it all. I know I need time-out, and am hoping that we can arrange some this next week, in between all the frigging appointments which seem to have no end.

Ah, well, this too shall pass.

Good Afternoon!

Woke up from First Sleep, and just finished eating a delicious noon-time dinner (wonderful Thanksgiving Leftovers, of course!). Yesterday, had a nice time visiting with my two sister-in-laws, niece, nephew and his lady-friend (former girlfriend). Of course, Amy spent yesterday later-morning/early-afternoon cooking up a storm!! (She really is a great cook!). We all had a great visit together, and did the usual "Thanksgiving Thing" and over-ate. Unfortunately, 6:00 PM came around and there was no phone call from work. So, I spent the rest of the evening and night at work, as scheduled. Although we actually had one patient in our teeny-tiny ICU, he was super-stable who safely slept a good portion of the night (well-monitored, and well attended to). So, it was a nice and relatively "Q" night at work. Last night was the first of four 12-hour shifts in a row for this extended week-end. Tonight will be night #2.

"Black Friday". . . . Gosh. So much really cool audio/video software and hardware that is SERIOUSLY on-sale!! But, so little $$$$.  It's tempting! It is really tempting!!! But no. I'm being a "Good Boy". So far. . .

Tweety - Seems like you had a bitter-sweet Holiday Dinner. It's nice to read that your Best Friend was able to join you and your family, yesterday. (Hopefully that means he is healing well??) But I appreciate the sadness felt by your Mom, and by you with regards to your parents. Your parents (and your family as a whole) seem like really nice people. Your time spent with them is precious time, for sure.

Joe - Seems like you, too, had a nice day, yesterday. Good for you for skipping those Black Friday sales!! Enjoy the day hiking and spending time with J!

dianah - Oh Dear!! Seems like the area where you live had quite the snow storm! Sad to read that your plans go to the apple ranch were scuttled. With all of the downed trees and snow, travel plans seem unsafe as a whole. It's a good thing that you're not going "Black Friday Shopping".

Herring_RN - Seems like you have a nice day planned for yourself! I used to read a lot of works by Asimov, too, during my younger adult years.

nursej22 - Seems like you also had a very nice day, yesterday, filled with great-tasting food, spending time with family. These Holidays sure can be both delightful and exhausting!! (And, good for you for also avoiding the "Black Friday Sales"!)

NSIME - (((Hugs))) Oh dear! The physical and emotional energy spent with "Nannie" must be so exhausting. Honestly?!? I don't know how you cope. I'd be furious for her "helping" (like when she put too much bleach into the laundry that discolored your pants) that did nothing more than add to the exhaustion and disappointment.  I honestly don't know if I could cope with such exhaustion for such a long time. (((Hugs)))

Well. . . I better go back to bed for Second Sleep. I leave for work in less than four short hours.

Peace, folks! 🙂

Ted

I just took a shower and I feel pretty good! Good, because hubby has been designated (by me) as The Nannie Sitter this afternoon. I am up in my room and it is so lovely "Q" up here! The sun is out and shining in my West-facing window.

PS- Nannie only 'helps' when no one is in her vicinity to stop her from carrying out her bright ideas.

We spent a quiet day at home.  I did some sewing on the Dickens costume project (hand-sewing).  Watched Westerns.  Dh and I watched It's A Wonderful Life.  It brought tears to my eyes, at the end.  It is certainly jam-packed with things going on, and things changing.  Quite an ambitious movie!  Probably tonight we will practice some.  I will also do some online "research" into the origins of the music we will be doing.  Just so I can give a little history of the songs.

Have a nice evening and night!
