Like all women-and particularly nurses-do I put the needs of others so far down the list I needed a map to find them. After many years of neglecting my health and hitting the big 40, I decided to take care of me. I have a very supportive family and boyfriend who are behind me 100%. I have started exercising before I go into work, and am amazed by how much energy I have throughout the day. Obviously the pounds don't drop off like they do on The Biggest Loser, but they are dropping.

My frustration is this-I started a page on FB documenting my journey. I had visions of a supportive community to encourage each good or bad. Didn't turn out that way. Does anyone know of an active on-line community for healthy weight loss? I am so excited about actually doing this for myself and my family, that I don't want to get discouraged before I even start.

Thanks!

Good for you!

I don't know of an on line group. I think many, like Weight Watchers, charge money.

Keep it up!

Please check out sparkpeople.com I LOVE this site, which is totally free! Of course, I understand everyone has their own priorities of what they're looking for, but sparkpeople gives you so many options- you can follow their suggested eating and exercise plans (which are also available for free and use a Weight Watchers type of sensibility!) or do any other program you wish. There are nutrition, exercise and goal trackers which you can make public or private or any combination thereof. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of community boards to which you can post for support and you can keep a blog and access the blogs of others. If you like it and decide to join, let me know and I'll message you my name there!

I don't know of any sites but am happy to support you here on AN.

Don't think of it as a diet but as a life change.

Get excited about the new tastes as you evolve toward a raw and more paleo palate.

Don't exercise unless you enjoy it...be active instead...take up biking, hiking, swimming, skiing, etc, get out doors whenever possible.

Good luck on your journey.

Fitocracy.com is a good one. Registration is free and it's set up like a game. You earn points for each workout / activity you log, advance levels, earn virtual prizes, etc. The people on the forums are very supportive. You should check it out.

I know WW costs, but it is really an excellent program and worth the money. I know tons of people who used it and every one of them lost weight.

:roflmao: Sorry, this just struck me as very funny.

To the op, this forum is very supportive Community | Reboot With Joe , it's for those that follow the diet from Amazon.com: Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead: Joe Cross, Kurt Engfehr, Stacey Offman: Movies & TV (it's on netflix too, give it a watch, you may find it inspirational)
