You are reading page 2 of For Farawyn, rodeo and other little known details... If you want to start from the beginning Go to First Page.

My first child was born in 1983 . . . . you all are youngsters compared to me.

I grew up in the 60's and 70's. Graduated high school in 1975. "75 Rules, 75 Rules" . . .chanted at pep rallies.

I had a horse but I was a hippie-ish kind of horse person. Not rodeo.

My daughter had a horse and she did ride in the barrel races in rodeos and wore Wranglers.

I grew up wearing Levis but when I met my current husband (I was divorced with two small children) he bought me Wranglers - red Wranglers - and a white ruffled blouse. That was a bit tough - didn't want to hurt his feelings but I'm not a cowgirl-type girl.

However, I do believe that "Wrangler butts drive men nuts". And some of those cowboys look good in their Wranglers. ;)

(edited to add . . . . ..I long for those Red Wranglers now because they were size 5 and I fit in them quite well at the time and wish I could fit in them now. Size 5 in the 80's are a size 2 now).

I fondly remember the days when I was 140 lbs, 5'8", and didn't even know there were such things as 'love-handles' or 'muffin tops'. And I could eat however much of anything, anytime I wanted to because I had metabolism. Well, and also, I used to go walking in the wooded parks to the tune of 25-35 miles a week. But I was always effortlessly slender until the dreaded menopause hit.

Little known details:

In grade school I was extremely self-conscious. People who I've told that to now-a-days are absolutely unbelieving.

I used to buy guy's clothes because they arms and leg were longer. Blouses and slacks left my ankles and wrists hanging out in the breeze.

I couldn't wait til I grew up so I could be alone. I was really fed up with having to be in a group all the time.

I took five years of piano lessons. Before I started them, I could play anything by ear, chords and all. At some point that ability and the joy of playing was scrubbed, pressed and ironed right out of me.

To this day I can't play piano.

I wore ear-plugs during the first two years of marriage because someone just breathing in the same room/bed as me kept me awake.

I just figured out that the point of this thread is to share little-known details about ourselves.

So here are mine, though I figure I'm probably not alone.

- Whenever I'm going to treat myself with a Cook-out milkshake or something, I hide it in the back of the freezer and don't eat it until my kids are in bed. It's mine, dammit, and I'm not sharing.

- I dream in Spanish sometimes, though not as often now that I'm not speaking all day/every day at work AND home AND church like I used to.

- I named our son after my husband and my stepfather. My husband named our daughter after his baby sister who died when they were both little kids. We always knew that if we ever had a girl we'd name her after her auntie.

My little known detail? I played the flute. I was a Band Geek.

We were meant to be soul mates. I played the flute too. :)

That makes three of us… I also played piccolo and violin, so not only am I a band geek, I'm also an orchestra nerd!

Heck, I don't even whistle well!

I can't either, Stars. :) My son has tried v. patiently to teach me and it just doesn't work.

I whistle poorly and out of tune. I do it mostly to annoy my family.

I can do the big fingers in the mouth LOUD whistle though. I taught myself at an Iron Maiden concert back in the day.

I've never been to the rodeo, yet I am obsessed with assless chaps.

I skimp on dinners out with hubby and splurge when its just me (yes I am ashamed)

I was exhausted after a rough shift and when I arrived home my husband hadn't left to take the kids to school yet. I drove around the block and waited for them to leave (that looks horrible in writing)

I hide "just for me" snacks in my makeup caboodle at home. I eat them during bubblebaths.

When I was young a girl bullied me so I paid some low class boys to hold her down and cut off her hair. I mean waist length curly black hair.(I know)

I believe that all of our communications are closely monitored.

I can still do splits despite not working out and being a little chubby.

I answered this thread when I should have been doing my second assessments.

I drive a beat up Hyundai when not in my truck.

I tear up at girlie movies, that is a big part of the reason that I prefer not to watch them in public.

I was not in band in HS, I was a jock scholar who despised the way that jocks were celebrated more than the kids who actually took greatest advantage of their education. My sports were track (hurdles, relay, long jump) basketball, and golf. That attitude kept me in trouble although it didn't keep me from participating as a starter in our state basketball championships. We lost.

I graduated HS in 1974 and was a "traditional" college student living in a dorm a few hours from home.

Even though I was not a military brat I moved and changed schools 5 times in 3 different states before I graduated HS.

I have been an elected official.
