You are reading page 3 of Evangelical leader takes on Beck .... If you want to start from the beginning Go to First Page.

YOu said the word: it is choice, to sell or not to sell. If you can't see the difference from CHOOSING to sell or not, and having your wealth FORCIBLY taken from you, I can't help.

I'm not asking for help, thanks. I said all that to make the point that no one can cherry pick one passage to take it to mean whatever they want without looking at the whole of the body of Scripture.

Christ himself did say one can't serve both God and money. Me personally? I don't want nor need anyone else's wealth, so it's not about that for me. But I do think it says a lot us as human beings when we are so unwilling to part with our own wealth (material and otherwise) when to do so would benefit someone else.** (I'm not talking about government, btw, and Jesus wasn't either when he told the rich young man to sell his stuff.)

So as far as I'm concerned, Glenn Beck can keep on attacking social justice, but all he is doing is drawing attention to it.

**I say 'we' because I think we all, to some level, struggle with greed and find it hard to inconvenience ourselves to help others.

But how do you feel about the government forcibly taking all that you do have, without any input from you as to how much, how it will be used, IF you can spare that? That's the issue.

Two separate issues. We started out talking about Judas, who was a private individual, wanting the woman's nard taken away from her so that he could have it for himself. He didn't do that because he cared about the poor. Then Jesus, also a private individual, told a rich person to break his addiction (if you will) to his material goods if he wanted to enter the kingdom of heaven. I am not talking about government. I am strictly talking about people's attachment to their wealth.

Regarding government - My issue with taxes is that they go to line the pockets of Congress critters and the DoD, than actually doing any good for humanity. If I lived somewhere like Finland, for example, where the tax rate is high for everyone, but mothers get 9-month paid maternity leaves, education is paid for as long as you make the grades, and there's virtually no 'welfare' as we know it, my thoughts on taxes might be a little different. Regardless, I find the government forcing my son to sign up for SSS at 18 just as disgusting as you find the government forcing you to pay taxes. THAT is theft.

The biggest thing for me is, regardless of who is in power, and regardless of who I think is 'right', no political party nor system of government is as beautiful as the kingdom of God. And regardless of who is in power, I have to live and practice my faith with that as my priority - tempting as it is sometimes to do otherwise.

Beck is nothing more than an opportunist. The Jerry Springer of our modern day American politics. Give him a stage, he'll put on a show. And that is all it is.....a show badly performed. Yet, like any thing, many find him entertaining...for whatever their agenda, for whatever their fears, for whatever their reasons. In the end, Beck most likely doesn't care what unrest he causes or initiates...his agenda is the spotlight and the bankroll/paycheck he collects for it. Rush even pretty much admitted the same for himself. Its a pretty good gig on their part. Multi millions.
