Wonder why Trump suggest it in exchange for immigration reform then?

Why not.  The background checks will do nothing and he gets a border wall.

"We can't live like this. It has to stop.

We can't afford to wait another day, or for another massacre to happen in our country, for lawmakers to address this. Yet the defenders of the status quo -- the gun manufacturing lobby and every single politician who is paid to defend it -- will tell you that horrific acts of violence like these are beyond our control.

I am telling you today that this could not be further from the truth. Every day we fail to take action, we choose this fate. Every day politicians fail to acknowledge and act on this crisis, they allow our gun violence crisis to take more lives.

And if Congress -- specifically Mitch McConnell and Republicans in the United States Senate -- fail to take action, then we must act to replace them. Because until we act, shootings like these threaten to take even more lives and tear apart even more communities."

Gabby Giffords

There already are background checks.  Try keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally deranged.

The requirement of background checks only applies to sales through an FFL which does not account for all gun sales, purchasing guns without using an FFL is readily available on the internet.

I own guns and have no complaints of having a background check when purchasing a gun, and I can't imagine selling someone a gun without utilizing an FFL to transfer the firearm.  There are ways around universal background checks but by definition the only people who would sell guns illegally are people who shouldn't have them in the first place, so it would make sense to stop willingly supplying the black market with guns.

Yeah, you're not the only one that sees through his fake concern.

Of course.

Which is why he grouped the issues together, and realizes nothing will be done.

Same game play, he has used for two and a half years.

When you have nothing in the tank, you use the same game plays, again and again.

The problem for Trump is, that game play only satisfies the rabid base, no one else.

And to win in 2020, he needs to grow the base, which isn't happening, or the Russians need to help him, out of a jam, once again.

What in these new laws proposed by Democrats would have stopped any of these shootings?  The Dayton shooter purchased his gun legally and had no red flags in his background.  Not sure about the El Paso murderer.

What have conservative leaders done or recommended to reduce the number of these type shootings? Do you think that states with more lax regulations on firearms contribute weapons to the carnage at a higher rate than do states with stricter laws?

Don't need to email I carry concealed.

So your suggestion is just for discussion boards? I also carry, both concealed and openly.  That literally has nothing to do with your suggestion.

Trump's entire speech was phony which is why he didn't take questions afterwards. He read that whole speech like he was constipated because he didn't believe it himself.

His words were obviously hollow platitudes.  it appeared that he was unfamiliar with the content and was reading it for the first time in front of the cameras.  That lack of preparation is a hallmark of Trump's arrogance. Does Trump have any credibility?

Did Trump personally denounce white supremacy or did he ask everyone else to?

When I was in 3rd grade the teacher disliked two of us students. The threw an ink bottle at the other student to, "Teach him he is no better than anyone else." (that kid had been star of a school play. We were the ones who got 100% on each spelling test.

When I was not paying attention she showed us how she wanted us to draw a star. When she saw me doing it wrong she made me come to the board. She called me uppity and a stubborn liar who could not leave until doing it the right way. I begged he to show me, but she wouldn't believe I hadn't seen her demonstration. It started in the morning and went through two recesses and lunch. After begging to go to the bathroom I wet my pants in front of the class. She continued after 3:15 when school was out. When I didn't come home my Mom came to the school and found me alone at the blackboard and that teacher. The next day I was in 4th grade where they were reading "Winnie The Pooh!

We fourth graders loved that book. When we couldn't predict what a person or team would do we said, "YOU NEVER CAN TELL WITH BEES"

Your post had me thinking, "YOU NEVER CAN TELL WITH TRUMP."

You can always tell when Trump is reading the words of others.

And that is because he sounds like an 8-year-old, reading a book report.

You will notice, that his own words, flow very smoothly, at his pep rallies.

You know, when he talks of an "infestation," at the southern border, and "good people on both sides," those words are smooth as silk!
