You are reading page 2 of Do YOU Keto?. If you want to start from the beginning Go to First Page.

I did a trial in December then left off for a month through the holiday, began again in earnest in mid-January.

I'm down 26 pounds in 5-1/2 months and feel good.

I'm using KetoStix and a fingerstick to track myself... thinking about getting one of the breathalyzers, too.

The fam is talking about going Paleo (which I did with a lot of success for 18 months or so) which should be fairly easy to share with keto.

I'm 15 lbs from my ideal weight which would match my graduation from boot camp at the age of 17.

I had in the past and am planning to start again (when I get to the grocery store). My A1C dropped from 10.4 to 7.1. That's the lowest it's been for a long time. My cholesterol also dropped. I went off it when I was put on prednisone (for asthma) becuase I would just eat everything in sight!

My doc is okay with it but she would prefer me to be on a plant based diet (she's a vegetarian). So long as my labs look good, she's okay. we just don't discuss my diet as much. I do eat a lot of veg though: I eat, even now, broccoli 4 times a week (what can I say, I Love broccoli) and I have some killer recipes that involve kale (Sausage and Kale soup, yum)

Not diabetic, A1C has never been an issue for me BUT my PCP does check every year and it went from 5.1 last year to 4.5 this year.

Start again! Do it. We all fall off the wagon sometime. I'm just restarting myself after a month long birthday food vacation. I have felt miserable because of it but the past few days I have been back to Keto I have felt so much better.

So I tried out keto over a year ago and gave it up for lazy reasons, it was very hard to meal prep and have everything planned out. I just hopped back on the wagon and have been severely restricting carbs. I pretty much only get carbs from nuts (pecan, walnut, and almonds) and vegetables, occasionally I will have berries as a treat. I went crazy for a bit because I have such a bad sweet tooth, but don't like the taste of artificial sweetener. I've settled on adding cacao to my coffee in the morning with a tiny amount of sugar. I haven't even been on the diet for a month (did break it for a trip to Vegas planned months ago). The main thing I noticed in Vegas is how filling carbs are. It is eye opening how filling a slice of bread is (and I used to have bread or pasta with almost every meal!). I'm not sure how long I want to stay on full keto, but it really has reset my body and the way I pay attention to what goes in it. I was eating fast food WAY too much but pretty much can't at all on the diet, but I am happy about that rather than feeling bad.

I recently injured my ankle and that's sort of what made me want to go back to the diet. I'm not really able to vigorously exercise and my BMI is higher than it should be. I am curious how I will feel trying to exercise on the diet, but won't know for a little while longer.

I lost 80 lbs on my original keto journey. Moved to another state, got divorced, life experiences, and I gained half of it back. My A1C jumped up to pre-diabetic levels so now I'm back at it cause being diabetic is not what I want to be. I've lost 10 lbs my first week.

I kept all my keto goodies and pulled them back out to get on my journey again, recipes and everything. We should start a keto support group and weigh in every month, share recipes, secrets, etc. Having a support system works! Not sure if it was mentioned cause I hadn't read through the thread yet so apologies if it was.

You can have bread so long as you make it yourself with coconut or almond flour. You can have goodies too if you use certain ingredients and make them keto friendly. The key to sticking to your diet is to pre-make meals or something as simple as prepping the meals ahead of time are beneficial.

My wife and I started this about a month ago. For me it is part of a fitness journey as I work on improving ability and decreasing weight. For my wife, it is helping control her DM II with a side benefit of weight loss.

It has been a little difficult since our granddaughter has been visiting us during this time. Normally I would have purged our house of carbs but we have to have some on hand to maintain her normal diet.

The secret is to buy snacks for the children, in my case, or grandchildren and make your own. But after a while, you won't have any cravings for sweets. Another secret is to drink plenty of water, lemon water preferred. It'll give you a full feeling.

I am keto for medical reasons not related to weight loss. I did not choose this - it is the only way I can maintain "normal" function. I meet with a nutritionist weekly to actually learn how to function this way for the rest of my life. I will either have mashed potatoes for a brain or for bones - so I'm trying to find a nice compromise in the middle. I have to meal plan every meal every day - no cheating and no eating out - no exceptions. It really sucks. Eggs and I are currently not seeing each other. We apparently had a misunderstanding a little while back and now I just can't even put them in my mouth.

Not to make light of your situation but I'm LMAO @ having a misunderstanding with eggs. Never seen it put that way. I want shrimp but we just do not get along!

In trying to figure out what my "balance" is, I tend to eat the same things over and over to make it easier until I feel like I've adjusted. Maybe I should have said "we are on break" - cause chicken and I are on break. Maybe eggs and I can try working things out.... or maybe I'll just forgo both chicken and eggs right now and not really care who was first because they both suck.

Sorry about shrimp - have you tried fresh shrimp without the preservatives? It could be the tri-poly or whatever the fisherman puts on it. My fella is a commercial fisherman and I can eat them right out of the river, but not if anyone has dipped them (and almost everyone dips them so they last longer).
