Democrats staged a sit-in on the U.S. House floor Wednesday in an effort to force Republicans to allow a vote on a plan to ban suspected terrorists from buying guns.
'Now is the time for us to find a way to dramatize it, to make it real,” Democratic Representative John Lewis of Georgia said on the floor while surrounded by fellow lawmakers from his party. 'We have to occupy the floor of the House until there's action."...

I'm glad they did this and I'll tell you why. I see little fighting for the common man in Congress in case corporate interests are upset. I am glad this group of lawmakers made a stand and had the courage to say enough is enough.

I'm proud of those sitting in for a vote!

Listen and sing along with Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon. She keeps on keeping on!

And what exactly did that accomplish?
It is ongoing.

I think they will either allow a vote putting all representatives on record regarding the gun safety measures or keep the sitting in representatives from getting a vote by physically removing them from the House floor so they can go back to doing nothing.

And what exactly did that accomplish?

It shows their level of maturity and reminds me of this commercial.

The Senate Democrats voted down a Republican measure that would allow watch listed people to be denied gun purchases if a judge agreed. It included a three day waiting period to allow time for the process.

The criteria for going on the list is vague and largely kept secret. I'm not a fan of striping people's rights away without due process. Both the NRA and ACLU are opposed to the Democratic proposal of striping away rights without due process.

The Orlando shooter was not on a watch list. He did not use an assault weapon. He passed background checks. So what would the laws the Democrats want have to be in order to prevent him doing what he did?

Next time, maybe they can lie on the floor and throw temper tantrums.

They are laying (or is it lying) on the floor. That qualifies as a tantrum. Any other action just determines the degree of the tantrum.

Granted, I fully expect the Republicans to resort to this at some future date when they will be justly criticized as acting childish by the Democrats.
