Tell me, how is the view from the top of the ivory tower?

This is why I normally avoid these conversations. Sweeping generalizations about who the poor are does not add anything to your argument....

The ACA affected the department I was hired for, shutting it down. The one created to take it's place had no benefits, and as of 2014, had maximum hours per week that could be worked, 29.5. Because I needed coverage for my toddler and I, I had to apply for other positions, and all that was available had drastically lower pay, not to mention the scheduling sucks.

Okay, I'll take your word for it.

But are you sure the company you worked for didn't just use the ACA as the scapegoat for redundancies and retooling they already had planned?

I have the same insurance I had through my employer before the mandate, my premium will increase slightly. It's a small price to pay to be healthy.

That's good. And you've been able to keep it, as it is in compliance with the ACA? Even better! You are one of the lucky ones.

I'm curious as to where the OP got his opinion that "I think that most nurses are moderate to conservative in our views". That's not been my experience at all and the poll results, thus far, are adamantly opposite to the OP's speculations.

Look where he lives... a decidedly red state, sometimes it's hard to see the trees through the forest

Of course not, without being one of the bigwigs, it's impossible to know 100%. But knowing how much this change is really going to affect their staffing, I can't help but be pretty darn convinced they are doing it because of being forced to give benefits to full-time employees.

Many companies are making changes like this and using the ACA as a convenient excuse. That doesn't change the fact that they are choosing to do this in order to cut their operating costs and make more money, most likely something they wanted to do for a long time but didn't have the nerve to do until the ACA gave them a handy scapegoat.

It's the "Red states" who suck up the vast majority of federal aide. Farmers are so subsidized by the feds that they are easily the most "socialist" segment of American society.

Speaking as a guy who used to make my living farming I have to tell you that the VAST majority of real farmers (as opposed to hobby farmers) I knew/know are pretty liberal and most likely to vote for democrats.

Businesses still have the right to defermine how they will operate. Each has a business model. The ACA changes and rules and mandates have made it necessary for businesses, large and small, to reexamine those models.....Not just to make more money, but to make the same money, or even just to break even. They want to stay in business. And if the new ACA requirements cur into their bottom lines, some of which are barely there, their options are few: find ways to cut expenses. Cut hours, no new hiring, take home less as the business owner and jeopardize the wellbeing of your own family. ACA might not be the number one reason people are having negative work changes and experiences, but it is the next on the list. I don't see how the employment rate will improve anytime soon with all the new hoops, regs, taxes and other odious crap being dumped onto us.

What is a hobby farmer? My daddy farmed for 70 years as did his brothers. Hardly liberals. Hard working farmers usually don't appreciate the rules and regs that get in the way of crop production. Neither did they enjoy plowing under crops that had to be destroyed as part of various government rules.

This is what irritates me the most. Blame the previous administration, while the current one does no wrong. Give it a rest already.

Lucky for me almost nothing people say on the internet irritates me. Who said the current one does no wrong? FYI a good way to instantly lose credibility is to criticize Obama for things that Bush was MUCH worse at. Don't you think there are plenty of REAL things to criticize Obama on?

I am glad that you like being told what to do, and you like being forced (eh, you aren't being forced to, since you apperently endorse Obamacare.)

LOL! I endorse Obamacare!? Are you just making things up as you go along?

LOL....WOW. Yeah, and the Democrats are?

It's a matter of degrees. They suck too, but on the one subject you are referencing then seem slightly better. However that is like saying I am the best surfer in all of Wisconsin. It may be true but I haven't said much.

Conservatives sure are a hateful bunch of rotten people, aren't we?

We will have to see when some actual conservatives join the discussion.

Can you tell me why you feel that way? I am obviously missing something here..

I think it becomes apparent when one looks at the kind of governments that have protected / created societies where there is more opportunity for economic and social advancement and what kind of governments do not. Generally the more conservative the government to fewer opportunities there are for social / economic advancement among the people.

By the way.....how many troops have come home?....didn't Obama say something along the lines of bringing troops home?...

What Obama said he was going to do was bring our troops home from Iraq and be more aggressive in Afghanistan.

Like what he has done in the wars or not it's pretty much what he said he was going to do, though he took longer than he said he would.
