We have a situation in my local area. There was a tragedy involving a 2 day old baby and a husky. The husky inflicted fatal injuries to the baby's skull as it was left alone on the living room floor in a carrier while the young mother went to the bathroom.

Now, there is no doubt of the importance and sanctity of human life. Please don't think I'm disputing that or lessening the value. That goes without saying, but nothing will bring him back.

The husky was quarantined and was going to possibly be euthanized. A wonderful generous man stepped up and paid over 600.00 dollars for the dog's release and vet bills. This dog was adopted by the original couple from a craiglist ad and was only in the house (with 3 other Pit Bulls) for 2 weeks before the baby was brought in. Anyone else see the disaster in the making? The dog also incurred a broken paw while in the couple's home and since they couldn't afford a vet, they made a makeshift homemade cast. So now we have a dog that is not only in pain, it is documented that there wasn't enough food for this dog...if you see pictures you can see how malnourished he was.

I have written all the media, the DA office, the Dog Warden, the School officials whom seem to believe this dog is a danger as well as a rescue orig Utah. I can't believe after all this man has done to rescue this dog, he had him taken away again. Before people jump on the bandwagon that if a dog kills they should be euthanized period....I want to point out a husky is a unique breed. They are very misunderstood, not to mean they are violent they are far from that, but they are not for the novice dog owner as they require alot of patience. This is not a vicious dog, it is the perfect storm of circumstances that created this horrific tragedy, but the dog should not be punished.

I do think the mother is at fault. She is 21 and I'm sorry but I thought everyone, esp new moms knew that you have to acclimate a baby with the pets in the house, esp dogs. Is this not taught in the hospitals? I know there is teaching for car safety, but is there no questions on if there are pets in the house? If not, there should be. I would think this is common sense, but maybe it's not. And if not, I'd like to get involved in getting the hospitals to institute an education module addressing this. Any ideas how?

If anyone is interested in helping me to try to save this dog by having your voice heard too, please PM me. If this needs to be moved to a different forum, I'm sorry I wasn't sure where to post being i'm interested in starting an education module and to me it's not a water cooler type topic. Thanks.

Do you have a local or regional Husky rescue that might be willing to take the dog? I am also going to send this link to a friend involved in dog rescue. I hope she might be able to help.

Wish I could do something for you.

Hey all...The update this morning is that the owner that adopted the dog is going to file an appeal and try to fight to get the dog back. I have email that I can give you if you wish to lend your voice. I got a few people on board. I'm still not sure if there are donations or not. At first, I didn't think it was a matter of money, then the owner said he was concerned how he was going to raise legal fees plus the quarantine fees. As far as I can tell, there are people in the community that are willing to help. My concern is to have a voice heard, if you have a few dollars to spare for him, great...if not I think it's important to just be heard. As I said for those interested, I can supply the contact info if you PM me. For those that have. I'm trying to put together a little list, such as DA's office and the local media. I was told by the Dog Warden's office that the DA's office is the best place to email. I'd like to have this situation get more media attention. Thanks.

Oh I wanted to add, I don't need to find someone to take the dog or a shelter...I just need help for this guy that wants the dog back.

It goes without saying, pet owners should be smarter than the pet.

I hope the husky gets a fair shake.

Pookie, Daisy, Bo Bo, Jasmina, Pris, and I are rooting for him.
