I was hoping this thread would be a way, through the arts, to attempt to bring people together to see each others points of view and learn from each other. I am not sure this "comedy routine" that makes fun of the president will do that. If our country is to succeed I think we should all try to remain civil for a common good. I appreciate the way MLK protested because it was done civilly, peacefully, and respectfully. In my opinion this is not very respectful. I am afraid if 'we the people' cannot be respectful when discussing politics then nothing will ever be solved, and because of that we will leave quite a mess for our kids, grandkids etc. Just sayin..

I appreciate your wish for respectful discourse. Yes, MLK was a wonderful example of peaceful protest. As was Gandhi. And look at how long they they strove for change, and how both were assassinated.

I fear that Americans don't have years and years of time to hope for change. I don't condone violence in any way, but I don't see that the current president has done anything to earn my respect.

Let me remind the folks here crediting MLK with "respectful" protest, that at the time, southern Whites didn't find him to be peaceful or respectful.

And that was why he was arrested so many times, and he and his followers were met with fire hoses and police dogs.

And Daisy writes as though the "injustices" faced by Blacks are in "the past."

Wake up! Those injustices continue today!

It is humorous that Daisy thinks Randy Rainbow is disrespectful, yet she routinely uses the term "illegals" to describe those seeking political asylum.

My song choice is Elvis Costello's version of the Nick Lowe song, What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding?

Unfortunately, I can't post a link from my phone.

This song immediately popped into my head after 9/11, and carried me through those initial, dark days.

I heard this on TV last night:

[video=youtube;-wtQqYW48sM]

I don't know about you

But I like to tell the truth

But the truth seems to change every Tuesday

When I watch the news

Man it just gives me the blues

No one listens, just on a mission to hear their own voice

It's a wild world

We're all trying to find our place in it

It's a wild world

And no one seems to understand it

It's a wild world

But there ain't no way I'm gonna quit it

Love is all we've got to give away

Some folks ain't got a dollar to their name

Others got their own jet planes

We all got the same blood running through our veins

Whether or not you pray

Black or white, Straight or gay

You still deserve the love of your neighbor

It's a wild world

We're all trying to find our place in it

It's a wild world

And no one seems to understand it

It's a wild world

But there ain't no way I'm gonna quit it

Love is all we've got to give away

Try a little tenderness, maybe some benefit of the doubt

Another person's point of view, try to listen not to shout

Hold your opinions loosely, maybe you're not always right

Show a little mercy, and hold onto love real tight

It's a wild world

We're all trying to find our place in it

It's a wild world

And no one seems to understand it

It's a wild world

But there ain't no way I'm gonna quit it

Love is all we've got to give away

Love is all I've got to give away

Love is all we've got to give away

Oh Dear! I forgot about this thread! Well. . .

Here's the latest musical political satire from Randy Rainbow. It's stinging, but only in the way that Randy Rainbow can write, sing and produce such a Broadway-style, politically satirical music-video. Enjoy! :D

What if no matter how right he was,

How wrong they were, how evil they were,

What if no matter how right he was,

He couldn't lay hands on a gun?

He couldn't lay hands on a gun?

What if no matter how outraged he was,

How furious he was, how murderous he was,

What if no matter how outraged he was,

He couldn't lay hands on a gun?

He couldn't lay hands on a gun?

If he dug through his Chevy, the back seat, the trunk,

The attic, the basement, piles of old junk,

Came up empty-handed again and again,

Tell me, what would he do then?

What if no matter how angry he was,

How outraged he was, how furious he was,

What if no matter how angry he was,

He couldn't lay hands on a gun?

He couldn't lay hands on a gun?

Husband and I AND step-Mom enjoyed this.

When she was not in a good mood a physician gave her a memory teat. She answered that she didn't know where she was, what year it was, or who he was just minutes after being ntroduces to "Doctor *****. She knew who I was and when asked, "Who is the president said, "Trump unfortunately."

We me in November 1979. She voted for President Reagan twice, George H.W., and George W. Bush once. She then voted for senators John Kerry and McCain and then Obama and Clinton.

She laughed and laughed when I showed her the video on her laptop.
