I went there for the first time this summer. Wow! I had a hard time dragging my bibliophile daughter back out...and that was after spending 3 hours there!

Along with the big chains, though, I also really enjoy finding the little independent either new or used bookstores (and the used books are a lot easier on my budget)

My husband and I plan our vacation locations based on the availability of used book stores and outlet malls (I *love* Hampton Roads).

One of the "perks" of my current job is that a Borders bookstore is located next-door....REAL cherry cokes a weekly treat.

A 2 story Barnes and Noble is 20 min away, another 10 min while Waldonbooks is in 2 nearby malls, also 10 min away.

I love the used bookstore in Media along with our great intercounty library system. Both my sons had their own library cards by age 5. My 14yo bibliophile son will come to work with me on a Saturday just to spend the day next door at Borders.

B&N has a valued shopper card too...

it costs a few bucks a year, but if you buy books like the way I do... its worth it! its I think 15% off everything in the store, and special other sales in the store too... plus advance notice to get some books... like the harry potter series....

oh... also... they'll deliver the harry potters on the day they're released IF you preorder... :) its faboo!

We have 1 big B&N in staten island, but they're innumerable in manhattan.. only px with them is that they've caused the shutdown of some small mom and pop bookstores... and, I dont do starbucks, except 1x at xmas time when i take my little bro to the store for xmas shopping...(I spoil the boy badly)

My bibliophile son just found the perfect girlfriend - she manages a bookstore! He just sent me a first edition copy of the latest Dune novel they had autographed by both of the authors! Told him to hang on to this one!

I love the smell of the bookstore as soon as you enter

the fresh pages of great books just waiting to be read

the comfy chairs and great coffee

the staff is always helpful (though I usually just peruse each aisle at my own pace and I know my way around pretty well so)..

also, if I need/want a book that's not in stock, they order it and give you a ring when it is available...very quickly most of the time too

love it

I can't go yet, but have enjoyed reading all the replies and have determined I WILL go sometime soon.

KLS, I can just imagine myself there, from reading your description!

Pardon me while I wipe drool off the keyboard . . .

:D :D :D

Books and cats. Life is good. :)

I love Barnes and Noble! The ones in my area have Starbucks in them! I love their Caramel Frappucino's! Plus I bought the readers advantage card and I can also use that at Starbucks inside the bookstore!
