awww, i'm so bummed that nobody's answered. over half a million nurses, a lot of us crusty old bats, and nobody?

well, we're out for lunch tomorrow! you'll recognize us!

warning

when i am an old woman i shall wear purple

with a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.

and i shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves

and satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.

i shall sit down on the pavement when i'm tired

and gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells

and run my stick along the public railings

and make up for the sobriety of my youth.

i shall go out in my slippers in the rain

and pick flowers in other people's gardens

and learn to spit.

you can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat

and eat three pounds of sausages at a go

or only bread and pickle for a week

and hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

but now we must have clothes that keep us dry

and pay our rent and not swear in the street

and set a good example for the children.

we must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

but maybe i ought to practice a little now?

so people who know me are not too shocked and surprised

when suddenly i am old, and start to wear purple.

Oh, I'm old enough all right, to say nothing of crusty. ;) Unfortunately, there's no Red Hat group where I live, and then there's the fact that I don't do hats of any color, let alone wear purple dresses. But I can spit and swear in the street, and growing more fat isn't difficult at all. :lol2:

The title of this thread caught my eye and I had to investigate. :)

I'm :rotfl: because I'm sitting here dressed in a purple top! By sheer coincidence! :D

I'm not overly familiar with RED HATS, but received an email from a dear friend recently informing me she's joined a group in Queensland.

I guess they're everywhere! :)

I HAVE a red hat, but there's no way I'm going out, in public, in what amounts to a uniform.....nope, not going there.

I'm a Red Hat in Training...according to the website, I guess that would be a Pink Hatter.

A lot of the members of my poetry group are in Red Hat and they always have a blast at their events. I've been invited to go to a lot of their events but I have always declined because I didn't know how the others at the event would feel about it.

obviously i'm not a "red hat" member. . . but. . .

one of my choir members is one! there's a very active "red hat" group around the area where i live. they seem to do a lot of social things together, wearing their red hats of course! it's kind of cool seeing them all together at such outings like restaurants and theater. didn't know that the "red hat" phenomenom went beyond my little area of the world.

it's international, actually. they have been having a new year's eve thing in london for years. just a few hundred more queens in town.
