Woman Accused of Witchcraft Burned Alive in Papua New Guinea

It's the 21st century, not the 17th century. However, a woman was just burned alive in the South Pacific for being a witch. That island is not on my bucket list. http://abcnews.go.com/International/...uinea-18434480

<---flashes back to christianity in medieval Europe, or christianity in early USA. shiver. Whenever religious law = becomes the area's civil law, it's disastrous. Theocracies are always bad, bad bad idea, always.

    how tragic. how absolutely tragic.

edit: upon reread of the article, it's not clear that burning witches is allowed by the civil law of that area. Although, police were present and no arrests were made, not even after the mob has dispersed....

this really is a horrific, heinous act of barbarism.
dang, if they suspected her of witchcraft, a simple smudging/cleansing should have eliminated any/all neg spirits and energies.
    and NOT burning someone alive.

    Now Leslie D, THANK YOU!!
i might get some use out of that link you posted, i do think i know a few people who might need a good smudging. I never realized i could help them before i read your link! I already own some sage, but, maybe not enough....(leaves for store to get some more sage..)

I laughed out loud when I read this line. I think I could use a good smudging. I definitely have had a negative thought or two recently. My town is >60% Native American. I'll ask around about it.

Mariebailey, maybe we should read more of the threads in the Specialty area of "Nurse Entrepenuers", learn more about this kind of business end of nursing,
and then-----hire ourselves out as professional smudgers,

well, maybe after we get very good at this, and build up a list of happy smudged customers we can use as references. I might start with some inlaws of mine...
I bet medicaid won't cover this, it'd have to private pay all the way, eh?

We might need a name for our new organization, "Mercenary Smudgers"??

    "Travelling Smudgers"?

    "Smudgers for Hire"

any of those sound good, marie? we could have specials and sales, too, like "budget smudges"..

and we might need a catchy motto, too, ......."You call, We smudge"?
    or
"If your problem won't budge, call us for a smudge!"

then, we can work on marketing more, too, maybe get one of us on some talk show, preferably you, Marie, as i am not much to look at at this age. Buy some ads. Set up booths at healthfairs, pass out business cards, etc.

by the way, i'm thinking we wear sage green scrubs to perform our smudging, to increase the chances we look clean as we drive home...

*** Well it's not as if we (Americans) have any room to judge anyone else. It's not like we have not proven ourselves ignorant and willing to slaughter innocents as a result of our ignorant fear. Nothing suprising about the incident, except that it made news.
