Buildling a mosque at Ground Zero.....

  1. 1
I love how one person called a mosque a "monument to terrorism". The prejudice is deep and I would fear for the safety of the people there, since Muslim Americans were terrorized after 9/11. Still I have to wonder "why there?".

Why there, indeed. I believe it's because nobody has the, uh, chutzpah, to tell them NO WAY.

In the video, there were plenty of people saying exactly that. From a political standpoint that might be difficult and illegal.

Balderdash! In my experience with building permits, it is possible to delay granting any or all of the hundreds that would be needed for such a project indefinitely....

A strip joint, a porno store, and a a bookie operation are already there.
The planned community center and Mosque would be two blocks from Ground Zero.

all of which are purported to be offensive to Muslims.....so that begs the same question, but in a different light....why there?

    What is th proper distance?
    Two blocks is too close.
There has been a Mosque 12 blocks away for years.

How many blocks would be OK?
I don't live in New York.
If it were a congregation I belong to I would speak against upsetting people. But I have no say and no answer.

Because surely they know they are going to attract rath, protest, prejudice and hatred, as well as violence and vandalism.

Still, I'm supportive of them building it there if that's what they want to do. If it brings out the Ugly American, so be it, as we need to confront that and heal ourselves.

My answer is this: because the 9-11 thing isn't far enough in the past.....it appears way too much like this mosque will be and perhaps is intended to be an "in your face" kind of statement. Too soon for people to have washed away or had it PC'd away, their feelings and remembrances that it was Islamic people who made it Ground Zero.
