A Black Mound of Canadian Oil Waste Is Rising Over Detroit

Kinda outraged after I read this article on NYT. How is something like this allowed to be stored in an open space so close to the Detroit River and within half a mile of residents?

Apparently, local concern was already brewing. Glad NYT covered the issue to bring it to national attention:

    This is only the beginning...
IF our "conservative" citizens have their way we will be not only contaminating our water with the Koch brothers toxic waste on the beautiful Detroit River, but transporting the dangerous tar sands oils themselves through ecologically sensitive areas of our country.

The oil companies have already demonstrated that they do not know how to clean up any leaks related to this product (please reference recent leaks).

Did you know that the Koch brothers, besides engaging in this sort of capitalist activity, also has lots of PACs that they use to buy legislation, and our IRS even grants some of them tax exempt status. How cozy.

Apparently the EPA doesn't yield the power the conservatives lead us to believe it has? You'd think that dirty great pile right up against the river would break some sort of law.

I agree. Hate that this mess had to start in Detroit (an area I called home for many years and will always have an attachment to). Who cares about Detroit, right? But yeah, this can happen anywhere in any town where the lives and welfare of residents don't matter.

And it seems that right now, the PEOPLE of Michigan, especially in places like Detroit, Jackson, Benton Harbor, etc don't matter.
The benevolent rich Governor is saving all of them from the burden of democracy.

the epa does care about going green...
specifically when the green lines their pockets.

well if the IRS has their way you will. Once this commander in Thief is gone from the oval office we can get someone with some integrity in there. I guess you can take the thug away from Chicago but not the Chicago away from the thug.

live fairly close to Detroit. but I am just echoing what the police union is saying about Detroit but I guess he is just some hack as well who hates Obama because he's black. The hate and intolerance I find in these posts are coming from the left.
