    I would not count on network television to provide more than stereotypical 'entertainment.' A hardnosed show such as Nurse Jackie will probably show more than we nurses want the public to know...so can we ever win?

    I wonder what is behind the recent increase in nurse-centered shows? A cultural shift of some kind? Or just one nurse show got started then the other networks copy-catted?

    I think it's the "copycat" phenomenon. This happens in TV all the time -- one network announces a new show on a particular topic/subject, and suddenly all the other networks are introducing similar shows. Fortunately, this wave of shows will probably "do it" for nursing for quite a while, and we'll be left in peace again.

    There wasn't enough time between the shows for it to be a copycat phenomenon.

    They have/will all debut too close to each other for that. If anything the networks are trying to get another Greys Anatomy hit without it being centered around doctors since the comparisons will be too obvious.

    But it takes a long time for a television show to get from the "proposal" stage to actually appearing on TV -- it's not like the networks don't know what shows are in development at the other networks ...
