I hope people go home and stay away before it gets dark.
Virginia Gov. Declares State of Emergency as White Nationalist Rally Turns Violent
Supporters gathered in Emancipation Park Saturday morning in anticipation of a noon rally held by "Unite the Right." The aim of the rally was to protest the removal of a statue honoring Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. The park was formerly known as Lee Park...
... The Charlottesville Police Department reported that, as of 12:30 p.m. ET, it had made a single arrest and emergency medical personnel had responded to eight injuries.

But those may not be the only injuries related to the event. A video made after 1 p.m. ET and posted to social media appeared to show a car plow into a group of marchers as they walked through streets.

The CPD estimated between 2,000 and 6,000 people were expected to attend the "Unite the Right" rally, according to local paper The Daily Progress. The controversial event was seeking to unify the far-right wing and "affirm the right of Southerners and white people to organize for their interests," according to its Facebook page.

McAuliffe said he declared a state of emergency to allow for a response to quell the violence...

It took Trump quite a while to condemn the violence, Herring. And he STILL hasn't condemned the bombing of the Muslim mosque in Minnesota. But what can you expect from a bigot? He's got to throw red meat to his bigoted base.

This violence and notions of White Power is so gross and vile. Apparently there is a movement afoot again for parts of the south to secede. I say: Let them!
In fact, I would offer my help on behalf of any southern state looking to secede.

From what I have read, police did little to quell the violence.

And now a car has driven into a crowd of counter protesters. I hope the person driving the car is charged as terrorist. That is exactly what they are: a common terrorist.

Trump may have publicly condemned these actions, but it is his appointment of those who agree with such hatred (Bannon, Miller) that has given implicit approval for these hate groups to step into the light. They should all crawl back under the rock from whence they came. Trump included.

I doubt that Trump himself tweeted that message. My guess is that Hope Hicks authored and sent that one and most of the other "reasonable" sounding tweets.

It is now being reported in the mainstream media that at least one person has died as a result of the car being driven into a crowd of counter protesters. Again, the person behind this attack needs to be called out as a terrorist and charged as such.

I am disgusted by what is happening in Charlottesville. Yep, we never knew how hard the bigots worked at keeping their hateful thoughts to themselves. Trump didn't create the hate, but he has helped to fuel it. He has given these people an outlet, and a pat on the back for their behavior.

    Shameful.

It is amazing that Trump is so quick to praise Putin, but can't seem to find his voice to condemn the shameful antics of his supporters. And let's be clear, those White Power folks aren't Hillary Clinton supporters. They are Trump supporters.

Now it's up to 3 dead, and we are still waiting from a statement condemning the White Nationalists from our piece of crap president. We won't get one of course, cause that is his base, and he won't speak out against them. The governor of Virginia was quite specific in who he was speaking against. I am beyond disgusted and ashamed of this country.

This smacks of the Brownshirt rallies of Nazi Germany.

What did Americans call it when ideological extremists used vehicles as weapons in Europe?

Analysis: Hate Groups Bank on Charlottesville Media Coverage as Recruitment Tool
The turnout of white nationalists that sparked violence in Charlottesville, Va., this weekend reflects an alarming level of cooperation among disparate hate groups to gain mainstream media attention. That’s the view of an expert at the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Montgomery, Ala.-based civil rights org that has tracked the activities of white supremacist groups since the early 1980s...

... The timing of the rally dubbed “Unite the Right” was pegged to the city’s decision to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from Emancipation Park, which was the site of violent clashes Saturday between protesters, counter-protesters, and police. But the real agenda, according to Hankes, was to garner mainstream media coverage as a recruitment tool.
The violence that erupted between various factions of protesters will be selectively mined for images to portray white nationalists as under attack from violent leftists and the police, Hankes said...

... “You’ll see the whole (white nationalist) machine swing into action when this is all over,” he said. “You’ll see them very selectively pushing out images that show fake numbers and peaceful demonstrations by their groups. They’ll portray violent leftists and the Virginia State Police siding with the violent leftists to give a sympathetic edge to the people who are spewing the hate.”...

Two of the dead were police officers monitoring the protests from above. It's strange and rare for a chopper to just drop out of the sky. Hopefully they will be able to determine the cause. I would not be surprised to hear a drone was involved.

It seems President Trump didn't "Tell It Like It Is" as his supporters claimed he did after he insulted women and Mexicans.
Why couldn't he call self proclaimed White Supremacists what they are?
