What did you like about the speech, what did you dislike?
Ted Nugent - Thumbs up or down? Who should have been a guest that was not?
    Rebuttals - on target?
What do you think about a $9 starting wage?
    Loophole closures?

I supect there are other things you liked or did not like.

I will be catching up on the speech and the rebuttals tonight...
I didn't even watch the news last night, so I am completely in the dark today...was it impressive with all the guests in the chamber?

The room was full to overflowing. Somewhat impressive. I only watched the actual speech.

One of my favorite lines: What makes you a man isn't the ability to conceive a child; it's having the courage to raise one.

At times some of the people in the room showed some interesting body language. I have been looking for the one picture that really shouted a thousand words. Can't find it.

Minimum Wage Would Be $21.72 If It Kept Pace With Increases In Productivity: Study

The minimum wage should have reached $21.72 an hour in 2012 if it kept up with increases in worker productivity, according to a March study by the Center for Economic and Policy Research. While advancements in technology have increased the amount of goods and services that can be produced in a set amount of time, wages have remained relatively flat, the study points out.

I watched it, SOTU is always big deal to me, no matter who is prez. I rather love the old-fashionedness of this old old constitutional dictate being done, again and again, by one prez after the other.

ONe line that caught me totally off guard, i did not expect it at all, was the one about raising minimum wage to $9 per hour. I thought of all the bazillions of humans in USA whose lives could become less frightening financial rope-walking, if that actually ever happened. Despite both Romney and Obama both being for tying minimum wage to cost of living,
    already,
the gop is speaking out against the idea that USA minimum wage should be above the poverty line...in all honesty, i doubt it will ever ever come to pass, i doubt the gop will ever NOT control house of reps,
but, making the minimum wage high enough, that one would be technically out of the poverty zone, was a stunning thing to consider happening....

Re; the rebuttal, (and the gop rebuttal to the gop rebuttal, which i did not watch)

I heard someone say,(para) that the gop ran against an Obama who they created, (liberal, socialist foriegn born, kenyan marxist who is a tyrant taking your guns, wants big govt, etc etc)
who is not much like the actual Obama,
    and that the gop rebuttal
was also to a speech that was NOT given.

obviously, the gop rebuttal was written before the SOTU, but, it was sad it was not even edited to fit the speech that was actually said. The gop still might be fighting an largely imaginary president that they have created, that mostly only clusterfox news viewers can see.

The problem with the leftists is that all they see is Obama through rose colored glasses. Everything that is wrong is Bushes fault or the GOP being mean to poor Barry. Why if the mean ol' GOP would just get out of the way unemployment would be zero, cancer would be cured and people like Christopher Reeve would have walked again.

btw, if it would make you feel any better, 22ga, i DO indeed have a list of things i am NOT happy about from President Obama, he is not "perfect" and i do not think he is. but, then again, i never ever expected perfection in a human, nope, this is not the first presidency i have watched.
Still, despite the fact i DO have some things i am not stoked about, overall, i am most pleased with the overall results and legislation he has enacted, and overall, i have been very impressed and feel proud of the job he has done, overall.

but perfect, nope, i don't see it. Great, yes yes, i'll call him great, but i'll never call him "perfect". I think he tried far far too hard to focus on bipartisanship, far far too hard to win over the GOP, ("they're just not that into you, Obama, move on now") and some actions really bummed me out. Like having a bipartisan commitee "the gang of six" who nixed public option right outa the gate, oh wow, that one hurt, oh it did, i will admit it. Sent me reeling, i felt like a fool for a while, too, i'd had my dreams up too too high.
Some other things, too, i have not been stoked about, extending the bush tax cuts also surprised me, and bummed me out, and other things, too,
but, my list of disappointments, is far outnumbered,
by my list of things i am stoked about.

but, i am not stoked about everything Obama has done, or hasn't done yet.

Even with Bush, although overall he gave me breathing troubles to see him sending us into bogus wars, etc etc,
i can and will admit there were some things he did that i actually DID like. I admired his AIDS work, for one, just off the top of my head. Very well done, i thought. give me a while, i'll come up with other things i liked about Bush.

It's really not "all or nothing" for me, anyway.

EDIT, i now recall, years ago, some pal betting me i could not list 10 things i liked about Bush, but, i did come up with a list of 10 things. Okay, i did include i thought his haircut was decent for that type of hair, and that he seemed to keep himself physically fit near as i could tell,
but, i did come up with 10 things i liked about Bush.
