No CPAC Invite for Christie Because of 'Limited Future' in Republican Party

  1. 3 New Jersey governor Chris Christie was not invited to address the Conservative Political Action Conference because of his position on gun control, according to a source familiar with CPAC's internal deliberations who requested anonymity to speak freely.
Christie has a "limited future" in the national Republican party given his position on gun control, the source tells National Review Online.

As a result, the CPAC insider says, the focus of this year's conference, "the future of conservatism," made Christie a bad fit.
Christie, the source adds, is simply not a conservative in the eyes of organizers.

The New Jersey governor, who has expressed concern about "an abundance of guns out there," has said he backs the gun-control legislation currently on the books in his state, some of the nation's most restrictive. Christie has also not been afraid to speak out against the National Rifle Association, calling an ad the group ran in the wake of the Newtown shooting "reprehensible" and "awful."

In another move that may distance him from conservatives, Christie, who boasts a 74 percent approval rating in New Jersey, is set to announce this afternoon that he will accept Obamacare's Medicaid expansion. His reversal follows those of other GOP governors including Florida's Rick Scott and Ohio's Jon Kasich who, like Christie, have been vocal in their criticism of the Affordable Care Act. ...

I don't understand why the CPAC seems to want to narrow the conservative field and voice.
Didn't they used to love CC and believed that if he had run instead of Romney he might have won? Now they dis him...?
Are they then turning their backs on the voters who support him in his state and nationally?
Perhaps someone can explain why it is important for Sarah Palin to attend but not an active conservative Governor?

CPAC is Conservative Political Action Conference. Christie is not a conservative. I am not sure why this is news.

Christie has shown that he will not throw the people under the bus rather than work with others. Of course he does not fit with the Conservatives. He can be proud of not be invited to the party of losers.

He certainly is not a democrat or a libertarian, he identifies as a republican...
perhaps we have a different definition of conservative?

Funny, how you post a link to a conservative site, but if someone else did to refute your argument you throw a hissy fit.

What do you mean? Who presented an argument? i saw opinions. There was a question about whether or not a Republican is the same as a Conservative. personally I think there is a difference and Christie not being invited to a conservative show confirms my thoughts on the subject.

    Where is a hissy fit?

Republican does not equal Conservative any more than Democrat equals liberal. Party affiliation does not indicate ideology.

It's a shame that there is no future in the Republican party for a Governor who has time and time again stood up for the people in his state.

CPAC is associated with conservatism not the Republican Party. But, I'm sure you knew that before hand.

No, it's associated with Republicans, always has been. CPAC used to be a gathering for far-right Republicans, particularly those who were anti-establisment/anti-government. One could argue it was the original tea-party. It used to have some mainstream speakers, but also some that were considered more "fringe", so it wasn't necessarily representative of mainstream republicanism. Their big speakers recently have included Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Santorum, etc, all people who 30 years ago would have been considered "fringe" but these days are fairly mainstream Republican.

Are you really arguing that the topics and themes at CPAC don't coincide with those of any particular party?

For those posters who refuse to acknowledge the difference between the Republican Party and the Conservative movement and its organizations, you must then likewise equate Socialist & Communist movements and PACs with the Democratic Party.

This is a direct quote from the article. I was merely saying it was a shame that this governor was seen as not having a future in the republican party. If your only argument is that I am confusing conservatism with republicanism then clearly you have nothing to add to the conversation.
