It will be interesting to watch Mr. Priebus as he renews his efforts to get republicans elected. I hope that they begin planning for a more reasonable candidate for the 2016 presidential election.

I remember when Republicans were truly conservative. Teddy Roosevelt created the national park system to conserve natural places for all Americans. Nixon started the EPA and signed the Clean Water Act.

Interesting history -- Climateconservative.org -- What would Reagan do?

My father has repeated many times that he has not changed, his party has.
Colin Powell said that recently in an interview.
I am hopeful that they will return to center.

so true, THIS is one of the most fascinating things going on in USA politics right now, is watching IF the republican party will try to stop pandering to their fringes,
    or not.

There are some recently developing signs, that they aren't reeeeally going to change much, though, but, probably too soon to say for sure. STAY TUNED.

And yes, most political experts do say the GOP has shifted quite a bit to the extreme right, especially in past decade or two. The GOP's patron saint, Reagan, would not even pass the sniff test for today's GOP.

<---------AS A LIBERAL, i kinda almost secretly do hope the GOP continues dancing for their extremists and their fringes...it makes electing democrats wayyyyyyyyyyyy more easier.

I kinda do hope they continue to say negotiating or compromise is a dirty word, as many voters aren't sure working together across the aisle really IS a crime.

I kinda do hope, they continue to relabel rich people as "job creators", and focus the bulk of their policies on favoring that 2% at the top, as the other 98% of us are the ones who have a far bigger voting block.

I kinda do hope the GOP continues to line up goofy candidates to run for office, like the 2012 zoo parade of presidential hopefuls--LOOOOVED it.

sooooooooooooo many things that the GOP currently embraces as the way to do things, there is an inner brat in me that kinda hopes they keep on doing juuuuust what they've been doing.
    BUT
because i actually DO love america, and i do realize we HAVE TO work together to get things done, i will now take my inner brat who typed those sentences above,
and stuff her back down where she belongs, and the rest of me will cheer on any signs of improvement in the GOP.

Yeah, I hear you...the drama and dysfunction is entertaining and interesting to watch but it is killing our democratic republic.
I very much hope that the republicans "find" themselves in this generation.

The protection of the "job creators" who have not created many jobs. The most notable is 4 more years of Obama. I do not see having the dysfunction of the GOP as healthy for our country. I am not sure the two party system is going to ever be functional again. There has been so much damage done by extremists causing too much energy to be spent responding to money talks and reality is sold for the benefit of the "job creators"

i am confident that many have thought the same re their own ideology.

GOP Megadonor Foster Friess: City Votes Should Be Discounted - Robert Schlesinger (usnews.com)
When I asked him if he was saying that votes from "center cities" should be discounted, his answer, in full, was: "Yes."
He said that Democrats "seduced" women into believing that the GOP was waging a war on women. Perhaps not the most politic choice of words, but that wouldn't be in keeping with Friess's political style.

Washington Whispers: Foster Friess: 'I Hope Obama's Teleprompters Are Bulletproof'

This is the man who also said that Bayer aspirin was a good contraceptive. Hedoes not seem to feel that inner city residents should have any voice in elections. I found his description disgusting, describing those in center of cities as the people who are riding the wagon train and his feelings. He thinks more people want to be the wagon pullers.

Now, I don't know about any of you but I am tired of being considered the mule who should pull the "job creators" in their wagons. If the only jobs they are creating are those for mules it is not a decent future for anyone. He tries to get us to believe we are pulling the lazy and shiftless. Yes, we are. And they are called GE, Monsanto, defense contractors, etc. The ones in the wagon are not the old, the sick, the poor, etc. They are to be left by the side of the road and ignored. Certainly, they are not bulletproof.

If he has much to do with the next election cycle I don't see much improvement in the GOP coming.

McCain compares Iranian leader to monkey; draws GOP charge of racism - First Read

Updated 12:52 pm ET. Always one to speak -- or Tweet -- his mind, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) Monday made a joke comparing Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to a monkey, something one Republican congressman charged was “racist.”

According to McCain it was a joke. If pictures of our POTUS resemble a monkey we are to ignore the nasties as "it's a joke".

These same people joke about Joe Biden and his colloquial expressions.

Wonder if Fox views will beat this to death.
