I think that modern Republicans believe that our government is of the people, by the corporation, for the wealthy.

Jul 21Perhaps some conservatives are apposed to universal or single payer health care in the USA not because it offends the constitution but because it offends their sense of what government should do on behalf of the citizens.

Jul 21I believe that Ryan is a big Ayn Rand fan, who of course depended on government entitlements at the end of her life. And I think Ryan got government funded survivor benefits as a young man.
Many so-called conservatives I have spoken with have this "I pulled myself up by my bootstraps" frame of mind, that is so naive to me. Unless you are out living off the grid I think all of us have benefited from government services: roads, schools, power grid, post office. And as I said before, a healthy educated work force strengthens our country.
