Yes, and also US support of Arab Spring uprisings and the Syrian militias. We just can't seem to keep our thumb out of that pie.
Everyone knew that in the event of a civil war Saddam could be counted on to support his fellow Baathists in the Syrian government. Iraq may not have been a serious military force, but combined with Assad's loyal troops more than enough to crush any uprising. Getting rid of Saddam, along with the events of the Arab Spring, pretty much guaranteed a Syrian civil war.

DHS report disputes threat from banned nations
WASHINGTON (AP) — Analysts at the Homeland Security Department's intelligence arm found insufficient evidence that citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries included in President Donald Trump's travel ban pose a terror threat to the United States...

... The three-page report challenges Trump's core claims. It said that of 82 people the government determined were inspired by a foreign terrorist group to carry out or try to carry out an attack in the United States, just over half were U.S. citizens born in the United States. The others were from 26 countries, led by Pakistan, Somalia, Bangladesh, Cuba, Ethiopia, Iraq and Uzbekistan. Of these, only Somalia and Iraq were among the seven nations included in the ban.Of the other five nations, one person each from Iran, Sudan and Yemen was also involved in those terrorism cases, but none from Syria. It did not say if any were Libyan.
The report also found that terrorist organizations in Iran, Libya, Somalia and Sudan are regionally focused, while groups in Iraq, Syria and Yemen do pose a threat to the U.S....

... The report was prepared as part of an internal review Trump requested after his executive order was blocked by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. It was drafted by staff of the Homeland Security Department's Intelligence and Analysis branch at the direction of its acting leader, David Glawe.
White House spokesman Michael Short said this was not the full report that Trump had requested. He said he believes "the intel community is combining resources to put together a comprehensive report using all available sources, not just open sources, and which is driven by data, not politics."
The intelligence document was circulated beyond Homeland Security....

    First, well Duh!
Second, I expect some heads are going to roll over at DHS for failing to toe 45's B.S. line.

It will be interesting to observe the response from the Oval Office. Trump doesn't like disagreement.

In his remarks tonight he made it a point to say the words Islamic Terrorism or whatever today's required language is to be politically correct. I believe that was his response to a cabinet member indicating disagreement with that language.

And not just any cabinet member, but Lt.Gen McMaster. For those who don't know, McMaster, as a Captain, was in command of Eagle Troop of the 2nd ACR in the first Gulf War during the battle of 73 Easting. Known as the last great tank battle the world has ever seen. McMaster's troop rolled through and utterly destroyed a much larger force of Iraqi Republican Guard tanks. McMaster's brilliant leadership is credited with destroying a much larger force, while sustaining a minimum us US casualties. He is famous in the army for preserving the lives of, and the care of his troops. My unit, part of the 82nd Airborne, passed through that battlefield and the destruction was mind boggling.
McMaster was the most respected commander in the army even way back during my service.

I remember Trump spewing about how he knew more about ISIS than the generals did (with "Believe Me" routinely thrown in).

Here's some other fun quotes that show how Donald Trump knows more about just about everything else in the world than anyone else in the world, at least according to Donald Trump lol!

this is awesome! HUUUGEly funny!!! At what point does self-aggrandizing morph into a clinical diagnosis? This is beyond bragging and moves into delusional. A little stretch of the truth with "nobody does this better than me" now and then, who cares. But this is something that really does look like a mental disorder!

Did I wake up to discover that the president tweeted conspiracy crap that he got from Breitbart and wing nut radio again?

Amazingly, we can marvel at this man's idiocy at the same time that we consider the evidence of corruption, deception, and possibly treason in his administration.

Yup,that would be correct. Currently claiming that Obama planted wire taps in Trump Tower prior to the election. Claims which have no basis in fact, have no evidence to support them.

On a side note I heard that some group somewhere (CAP?) actually did tally up all the lies Trump told during his speech in front of Congress, the one that Americans overall thought he pulled off in the most presidential manner he has managed to date. Trouble was he told 51 LIES in 61 MINUTES. At nearly one lie per minute I guess he can brag that he is the very best liar in the history of the US lol! NOBODY lies better than Trump!!!
