Health information being SOLD!

  1. Looking through several threads, I see frequently that advice can veer to getting mental health services. Does anyone worry that your medical information can be hacked or even sold on for commercial, governmental or to other third parties for any number of unscrupulous reasons?Insurers denying coverage, employers etc?

I think our current administration will erode many privacy rights and leave us far more vulnerable than ever before.

This is a potential risk when you share information with any third party, be it medical facilities, mortgage brokers, credit card companies, car salesman, a great multitude of websites. Identity theft is also a possibility any time you swipe your debit or credit card. There are still laws that prevent sharing of medical information and discrimination based on that information, and I don’t believe that will change under the current administration. The thought that an average citizen’s medical information will be secretly collected by the government and disseminated to potential employers is a bit too close to a conspiracy theory for me to be concerned. I see no reason why such a theoretical risk should prevent someone from seeking the mental health resources they need to life a full life.

AOL, Amazon, Govt hacks etc should have everyone worried. Recent election results and the icing on the cake.

Your medical record is worth more to hackers than your credit card

This administration wants to take away privacy rights of Americans so that Americans are far more vulnerable than they ever were before? Have there been statements from this administration that would suggest that they want to make Americans more vulnerable than they've ever been before?

Can I ask why you think a Republican government would do that when generally their stance is less government is better. The democratic stance is the more government, the better.

I truly wouldn't worry. To me, it's a needless worry as I know most of my info is being bought and sold all the time. It's why I get targeted emails and ads on the internet. And in my mailbox for that matter. It doesn't change the way I live my life one bit.

The "far more vulnerable than ever before" part may be hyperbole, but the GOP congress and Trump are taking steps to roll back Obama administration rules to protect individuals' internet privacy (to make it a crime to sell our browsing histories without consent).

I would not consider anything hyperbole with this administration based on their previous actions and the fact that they appear to really embrace ignorance. From the EPA to Foreign policies, almost every Dept appears to be staffed with amateurs. The appointments appears to be favor or politically driven with little thought as to experience or ability.

This is not a Mom and Pop corner store! No matter how much you love your children or even if their ability exceeded others by a mile, should they be even remotely considered for any positions or be allowed anywhere where Govt decisions are occurring. Just for the message it would be sending. Then you compound it with tweets and bombastic statements and no one appears worried. You appoint Sessions who thinks it is okay to make a joke about Hawaii, which I think is a lie, which he is already very suspect for doing often. His office cannot be seen to make any mistakes whatsoever!! He is the attorney general, not secretary of agricultural research!

It's truly alternative reality and his supporters continue to believe that he is likely to improve. Almost every single action so far of this administration can be deemed to be asinine and emotionally driven, instead of carefully considered and objective. When you begin anything under a cloud, you should keep your head down and play it safe until you have racked up some successes to substantiate other decisions that may be considered outrageous. That's basic common sense. Gorsuch first contribution, kill someone. They are all grandstanders except for Tillerson who is simply more corrupt than Don Corleone.

Seriously, even Putin's Russia took him years to manipulate and he set out to be corrupt. We have 100 days and his intentions were emblazoned from day 1.

Here's something significant about this President that lots of people fail to be aware of and I am stating FACT, not conjecture. People who are willful and belligerent in one area of their life exhibit a character trait that is prevalent in most areas of their lives. Take a look at your family members or acquaintances and you will see what I mean. If they are prone to rashness and bellicosity, observe how they interact with all age groups or individuals of different standing or even sexes. Imposition of their will or ideas is always prevalent and frequently have unpleasant consequences because of impulsivity and inconsideration.

They fight with everyone and are emotionally ruled regardless of negative connotations.
