Has our privacy just been sold to the highest bidder? - page 3

Far too many politicians seem to run for elected office for nothing more than to leave their mark in the form of legislation which they support and to line their own pockets. The vote on Tuesday to... Read More

There's a difference between ad tracking (what you see on many sites) and when personal data is shared.

Ads just track click data (via cookies). As long as that cookie exists in your computer their system can show you another similar ad. There's no way to tie the click to an individual. (No personal info involved.) You remove the cookie and they have nothing.

With this change they are basically saying that it's ok for companies to share this data along with personal identifying information about a user. Now, they will be able to track YOU everywhere. At work ... at home ... using different device ... etc. You can delete cookies - it doesn't matter. They know who YOU are.

This is just an example using ads but most of these big companies want to target you without the need for cookies. They want to know that you live on Mulberry Lane ... they want to know that you have 3 kids age 2, 9, and 17. With this kind of information they can send you specific newsletters, snail mail, ads, etc. You looking for a new vacuum? They'll send a salesman right over.

The regulation that they are getting rid of said that if a company wants to sell "your data" they will have to ask YOU first. Basically, saying that the user has the right to know what a company is doing with their data.

This posting is sooo inappropriate for this site. Furthermore it is not evidenced based. You need to research this leg. action for the real wording, history and implications before making an idiot out of yourself by writing this And publishing it. Since when did this site become a political bashing weapon. And why is it that any pro-life, pro Trump conservative views just happen to not be published on AllNurses. (PS news flash! you don't represent all nurses!!) Seems to me this article is exemplary of why nursing is still at the bottom of the heap, bullying each other, scrapping with each other, tearing each other down, lateral workplace violence...no reason; just bottom feeding mentality.
Google, Facebook sold your private info years ago, even your nursing boards sell your name and info to the highest bidder...true, look it up. Ever heard of cookies??? Use a private browser! And guess what??? You can change this by behaving like a responsible citizen and contacting your representatives en masse to object and change it. Or do you simply prefer to yell, scream, name call, destroy private property in the name of protest, and behave like one of those neanderthals seen on the news. I am thinking you are one of those loud mouthed, do nothing, just bellow, blowhard people who would rather write offensive blogs than actually tackle the hard job of political action. A Pelosi type who says we have to pass it so we know whats in it.
Momo, you'll find most nurses are a caring, considerate, empathetic bunch, so of course we will be left leaning. We care about our fellow man, even you. We also use the forum to air our views and then learn from other perspectives. Kind of like a grown up thing. So what if we differ, our core values allow us to help people who have been totally ungrateful and abusive to us. Join the democrats and you'll find that your previous friends who were always judging you, doesn't exist anymore and will even be tolerant of your boorishness. You can change, I believe it of you and you can impart some of your aggression to a good cause.

Surely you want to sit and have dinner with a nice woman. We'll even allow you to dominate the conversation and smile at your jokes

    Wow, shades of NETY

Yeah, only Democrats or people who lean left are caring, considerate, and empathetic.

That ruins your credibility right there by making assumptions and blanket statements.

Have to agree.....this kind of polarization is not helpful and only serves to further the divide.

Do you guys know what' taking the piss' means? Stop being so literal and serious. Where and why so much angst? I don't know that person from Adam so why would I denigrate him. I'm just winding him up and apparently inadvertently wound you up as well. Seriously, try those cat doing funny things vids on YouTube, it's the best therapy for everything. Oh, also look at how well cats and dogs get along vids as well. What could that possibly mean?

Oh, you were just kidding. Kinda sounds like one of my kids when they get in trouble for harassing their sibling.

Ok then but remember, in order for humor to be funny, there is always a bit of truth in humor.

And this kind of "winding him up" does what BC mentioned . . . drives us further apart.

    Hi momofm1998.

As others have noted, this side of AN is called the "Blue Side" and was created to let us have a bit more leeway with out subjects and postings. They can have nothing to do with nursing.

There are more conservative posters here (I'm one) but I will say personally that I prefer to not post as much in heated political threads anymore. Not that I don't but . . . I try hard to stay away from them. I'm not completely sure of the stats but it does sometimes feel like we more conservative nurses are outnumbered a bit. However, I've tried to tone down my rhetoric and keep a more open mind about why we disagree and consider some of the left-leaning nurses here as online "friends".

I don't agree that "nursing is still at the bottom of the heap, bullying each other, scrapping with each other, tearing each other down, lateral workplace violence...no reason; just bottom feeding mentality." But that's another thread.

Don't see why you should avoid it at all. Your opinion is as valid as anyone's. Have the courage to not let trolls dictate your behaviors or they would have won. That twerking girl had a song about climbing hills, the Disney girl. Good song and message.

I've been here since 2002 . . . I've been in my fair share of political rants. I prefer other subjects for the most part now.

It is the same old, same old in a way . . . kinda boring really.
