  1. DeVos confirmed!!!!!!!!!

    Good!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time to shake up our failing school system in this country.

Time to put Math and Science ahead of who uses which bathroom.

Time for School Choice which Obama killed shortly after taking office.

Not good. We now have an immensely unqualified person who bought her cabinet position in charge of our children's education. I'd rather have a grizzly bear in the school.

I'm so glad I no longer have school age children. Our poor kids....

You got to love her attitude

Regardless of if you are for or against guns in schools, this woman is funny!

Murphy: Do you think guns have any place in or around schools?
DeVos: That is best left to locales and states to decide. If the underlying question is —
Murphy: You can't say definitively today that guns shouldn't be in schools?
DeVos: I will refer back to (Wyoming) Senator (Mike) Enzi and the school he was talking about in Wyoming. I think probably there, I would imagine that there is probably a gun in the schools to protect from potential grizzlies.

Here is another gem from her hearing.

Kaine: “If confirmed will you insist upon equal accountability in any K-12 school or educational program that receives taxpayer funding whether public, public charter or private?”
    DeVos: “I support accountability.”
    Kaine: “Equal accountability?”
    DeVos: “I support accountability.”
Kaine: “Is that a yes or a no?”
    DeVos: “I support accountability.”
Kaine: “Do you not want to answer my question?”
    DeVos: “I support accountability

Thankfully most education decisions are made locally.

When we moved to California my Dad, a teacher, chose where we lived based on the quality of the schools.
My sisters and I still benefit from having attended good schools.
My Daddy was educated in Chicago public schools. He went to university on the GI Bill. It provided up to four years of benefits so he earned a bachelors and master summa cum laude in those four year and was Phi Beta Kappa. He also played in a band at a roller rink and the country club and gave music lessons to kids.
Mommy sewed custom skating skirts and ballet costumes for kids. Two of my sisters were born during those years too.

As a first grader I preferred Superman comics, Dr. Spock's "Baby and Child Care" "Madeline" "Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose" biographies from the children's section, and "Ozma of Oz" to "Fun With Dick and Jane". (Except for the policeman finding lost baby Sally)

If the schools have problems they need to be improved. I don't think good local leadership won't be led astray by the federal government. We have school board elections coming up next month. I've started my studies of the candidates. We have an active League of Women Voters that helps with candidate forums, biographies, voting records, and such.

That's not humor; it's stupidity and ignorance.

I am worried about tax dollars being siphoned-off to for-profit, non-regulated entities. If charter and private schools can pick and choose who may attend, then there is the possibility of higher needs kids not getting what they need for success because the money has gone to schools that ignore scientific facts.

Free, public education has been one of the great successes of our country, sad to see it turned into a profit center for capitalists, under the guise of "choice."

So we now have a Secretary of Education who has never attended public schools, has never worked in any public schools anywhere, and does not send her children to public schools. She is not qualified to be a teacher, principal, or administrator in any school in the United States. But now she is responsible for overseeing them and helping to correct problems in our public schools as they exist today? What qualifies her for this role? She has no education background, unless you count receiving her own degrees as such lol. If she were applying for a job as principal of my local elementary school she would not be awarded the position based on her lack of qualifications. SMH at how the hell this one happened. Oh wait now I remember, she is really really rich. That's why.

In my lifetime, I've seen the dumbing down of America. There was a time when we were the most educated. Now we've lost ground and aren't even in the top ten. It's not a conservative idea to promote math and science. In fact Republicans int some areas have shown otherwise. However, if math and science are being promoted by her, I'm willing to listen.

A 50/50 vote that had to be broken by the VP is not a good start and almost failure. It shows that whom have hired you have little confidence. I hope she understands that this isn't a mandate for her qualifications or her agenda.

The Blaze is reporting that a GOP bill has already been introduced to abolish or dismantle the federal department of education. Perhaps DeVos was chosen precisely because she has no love for the department that they want her to take down.

I guess this is what poor angry white folks in rural America want - no public schools.
No obligation for the schools to provide for children with learning disabilities.
    No transparency.
    No accountability.

Senator Dan Sullivan in Alaska wouldn't answer phone calls, did not clear voice messages so that option was quickly unavailable, did not respond to email or snail mail. He isolated himself from the will of his constituents completely in this matter. Senator Murkowski responded to our calls and voted NO on this ridiculous candidate. She should, however, have NEVER let such an unqualified person get past the committee to the full Senate.

Or could be just like Dubya who, when faced with the loss of the popular vote, declared he had a mandate to carry out his agenda. Equally stupid.

And she contributed millions to Herr Trump's campaign. She bought her position.

I remember all of the bumper stickers, campaign signs that said "Billionaires can't be bought" and "Trump can't be bought". Looks like he has been bought lock, stock & barrel.
