1. Hi, I am 31 and still get acne. I get those big ones once in awhile. I am wondering if any of you have good home remedies that work. I have heard toothpaste does, but what kind? Also has anyone tried Proactive? Does it work and is it hard on your skin? I don't think I am in the category for Accutane, as I don't have severe acne. I have tried birth control (I forget the name, but it supposedly helped with acne), but it made me sick. Thanks for any help you can offer....

I'm on birth control and get them now more than ever. All birth control with estrogen/prog combo is supposed to help with zits. The only reason that company says it's the only one is b/c it conducted the study that proved that and is allowed to say it. Learned that in Pharm on Monday...see, things still stick!

Check with your doc and see if you can get another combo that's easier on your system. Or just stick with the toothpaste. I use straight alcohol. Burns the living be-jesus out of them. My cheeks will prob be hanging down to my bosoms when I'm 80, but that's ok...

Orthotrycyclin is probably the birth control you tried. It has helped my acne a lot. I tend to go for the more harsh stuff, such as Noxema and Oxy. I also use a deep pore cleansing w/ microbeads stuff. I know it sounds like a lot, but my face is pretty clean and not dried out.

Try to stay away from oily facial stuff. I have tried toothpaste on a zit and it didn't helpe me at all. Have you ever tried those Nutrogena or Biore on the spot zit removers? They're like a bandaid for that one zit and it's supposed to be gone or better by morning....

I don't know, maybe I'm not of much help....I'll try to find some stuff.

Tetracycline is supposed to be of good help.
I took my daughter to the Derm. and he put her on some meds and some type of facecream. I don't recall what it was though...sorry.

I used to take Tetrcycline as an adolescent which seemed to help.

    Hay. . . I've got a question. . .

Anyone ever get Zits on their butt???

(They hurt, don't they. . . .especially when you sit on them. . . )

I use clearasil and some exfoliating stuff. I'll also use the biore warming pore cleanser a couple of times a week. Then I make sure I apply lotion afterwards .... nothing like dry skin to pump up oil production.

You may want to try droping an item a week from your skin care regimen ... you may be reacting to a product you're already using. If it still persists ... see a derm.

Yeah.... that's right... the same stuff that shrinks hemi's works for zits...and also for puffy bags under eyes..... Its best to use at night so that you can put a little on and leave it on over night.. but you can also use it under make-up as well.

Metronidazole (sp?- too lazy to go upstairs and get compendium) also works (I know its for rosacia...but works wonders on the face too)

Just a few ideas.... I used the bcp with the acne helper in it too for a while but it made me miserably sick...so I'll stick to more tame pills.

I can't really use facewash or cream.....super sensitive skin that breaks out in a rash & zits if I use anything for more than 3 days.. so I stick to good ole warm water...and the odd facial mask....

if in doubt I use the brown paper bag over the head trick, although not a good idea if you are a smoker.

Ted- the butt zits are unique to you I think. And that was more than I really needed to know. Blech.

Well, a TMI alert wouldn't have hurt.

Back up to the FACE, I loves me some ProActiv.
Your butt did look a little shiny in that hospital gown pic Ted. Maybe you need something with a little oil control?
