Your help is needed!!

  1. Hello,

It has recently been brought to my attention that our troops who are still in Iraq are living in deplorable conditions. Most have lost considerable amounts of weight, they are sleeping on the floors without a sleeping bag or even a blanket. Our government is spending money to re-landscape Iraq!! That's right....buying FLOWERS when our soldiers who volunteered to protect the freedom that we take for granted are living in worse conditions than the rapists and murderers in our prisons!! I don't know about you but this OUTRAGES me!!! Please anyone who reads this....write your congressmen, governor, or even Pres. Bush...something has to be done about this! Some of our troops will be there until April of 2004.

    Hi Belinda

Would you post an article to this effect so I can read it please?

I wouldn't put it past our government to be more concerned with how they can financially benefit from Iraq's riches in oil, etc.

It's very upsetting to read about what you wrote, especially since I have a nephew over there. He isn't allowed to tell the family about anything going on over there because he is in Special Forces, but when he comes home....I want to really talk with him about things we've been told and so forth.

I pray you heard wrong, Belinda. It's too much to swallow. It outrages me too.

me too.. would like some specifics if you have them... as in which companies/units, etc.

One of my dear patients has had her grandson over there since the beginning... 3x a week this dear little woman sits in her dialysis chair and stays glued to the TV hoping against hope for some tidbit of good news. She was soooooo excited last month when it was thought he would be home in August. She informed us this week with tears in her eyes that it would now be November.. at the very earliest.

If she knew her grandson was risking his life dailey (and yes, he's in the Third Infantry) and had no bed , cot, or blanket...

This would be more than this kind soul could bear. I DO SO HOPE this is not so.

I don't have an article. A very good friend of mine is in the 173rd Airborne Brigade. I talked to his mother this morning and she read parts of a letter to me that he had sent home. I'll call her and she if she has any other info.

President Bush won't care what we think. If he did we wouldn't be over there in the first place.

Please find some specifics. Why would certain brigades not have sleeping bags, etc? It's not like the military doesn't already have those supplies....

Very well said, SharonMH31. My thoughts exactly!

Not surprising to hear. One of Bush's proposed cuts is to veterans benefits (how does one have the balls to cut veterans benefits at the same time he starts a war????), so why on earth would he care whether our soldiers have a cot to sleep on. I also read somewhere that in some areas, supplies were slow in coming and they were running out of food.

But of course, the oil ministry is well protected. And I doubt that Paul Bremer has to sleep on a hard floor, or ration his food.

Whoa there, Belinda ! Easy, Girl ! I know you're upset, but I do believe Sharon is just as disgusted as you are.

And more facts, details, specifics, etc. are really needed before charging ahead. The thought IS disturbing, to be sure, but facts ARE needed.

I'm sure there's some way to follow up on this... take a deep breath. I don't think Sharon meant it as you took it.

I'm glad we still have troops alive to need a sleeping bag, according to some Democrats the war was going to be a quagmire, another vietnam.. didn't happen.

I hope the soldier gets a sleeping bag and I send my thanks to him for supporting his country. I hope he knows that there are some Americans who supported the troops from the very beginning and continue to pray for their safety.
