Worst week of my life

  1. Sorry this is going to be long.....

I hate to come here and whine and cry like a baby....but i don't know where else to turn for advice.

Monday - my dad had a stroke

Wednesday - my husband was in a wreck. the police were chasing a robbery suspect (shortly b4 the wreck this guy was clocked at 85 mph in a 35 i think) and this guy (the suspect) plowed head on into my hubby. well, they transported him to the er where we met him. they took like 30 minutes worth of x-rays and sent him home with some meds.

Do you see the trend yet??? Monday wednesday....well, i decided we were staying in the house on friday just in case. (i'm a pretty superstitious person and i just had a bad feeling) well, i get him out and about saturday and come home and check the mail.....There's a letter from the er (thought it was a bill, but..)Well, this letter is dated FRIDAY the 30th. So here's my monday wednesday friday jinx.

well, it says that in the x-rays they found a right infrahilar consolidation and to come in for more x-rays or a cat scan. i called the er to ask and spoke with a nurse. she really didn't seem to know what i was talking about. she said it's probably just the beginning of pneumonia (sp?). Well i get the bright idea to look it up on the internet and the ONLY posts i've found said "rule out lung cancer" none that said the first thing about pneumonia (sp?).

Does anybody know what this is? Our insurance doesn't go into effect until tuesday. how to i get around the pre-existing condition thing (since they've seen it on x-rays, but they haven't diagnosed ANYTHING). can he wait until tuesday to go to the doc? I'm lost and have NO clue what to do.

i was supposed to start clincals in august, i think i'm going to sit out a few semesters.

thanks in advance for "listening" and sorry i've written such a looonnnnggg post, but i really need advice.

Honey, if you've ever seen my posts you would know yours is quite short!
I don't believe pre-existing can be unless a definative dx is made. Secondly so sorry for the crap, always seems to come together at the same time doesn't it. Waiting until Tuesday is only one extra day, surely not enough to be harmful. I hope all goes well for your hubby. The whole thing may be a blessing in disguise though. What are the chances he would have been involved in this type of car accident? And if this is CA, then it may have been caught early enough to do something about it because he had those x-rays.

Hmmm - following a car crash it could even be some pulmonary contusion/trauma thogh that is usually more widespread. I would go and talk to someone and I don't think the "pre-exisitng condition thing" can apply in this case as you did not know about it when you applied for insurance. Anyway tell the DOC your circumstances. There may be ways not illegal just ways do you get my drift?

I looked it up in the medical dictionary thru Medline:

hilum: "the depression in the medial surface of a lung that forms the opening through which the bronchus, blood vessels, and nerves pass".

hilar: "of, relating to, affecting, or located near a hilum <hilar lymph nodes of the lung>"

Radiologists do not "soften the blow" in their reports, they call it as they see it. As they called it a consolidation and not a mass I am thinking it could be many things. Given that he had (I am assuming) a blow to the chest I would think that would cause lymphatic congestion in the chest.

I do not mean to sound so "Pollyanna", I lost my Mom to lung ca 3 months ago, I guess I am just trying to give you other things to consider than the worst.

Please, good or bad, give us an update when you know more (if you feel up to it).

Hugs. Sorry you've had a string of bad luck. Take care and keep in touch. Sorry, but I don't have any experience or advice right now. Best wishes.

I'm no radiologist, but I'll bet the cases when its nothing interesting don't get put up on internet web pages! Try to treat it just as it is for now...a need for further information.

Thanks for your words of encouragment.

I'm fit to be tied. Tuesday can't come soon enough for me. I always thought of myself as a "strong" person emotionally, but this week has shown me that i'm am completely the opposite.

He did get hit in the chest and the face when the airbag deployed, but he smokes too. That's another thing the doc will address....Zyban or Wellbutrin Guess this is our wake up call. Luckily we're still young. I say young we're in our late twenties and early thirties (i'm the young one )

I'll let y'all know what I find out.

God works in mysterious ways doesn't he....Saves him from the wreck and then we get that letter (thank the good Lord that it wasn't a phone call from the ED) or maybe He put him in the wreck b/c He knew that hubby wouldn't go to the doc since nothing was ailing him.
