Why is everyone's username not their real name?

  1. Why do nurses use fake names on this website. Im quite famous in the real world but won't disclose any information for my own protection. Just wondering because im a car guy with my bro and people usually do ask for help kinda like anyone else would to nurses when you find out your neighbor is a Nurse practitioner.... But generally its not that bad when people expose me and my brother since it only makes us more popular and we pull in allot more money from ad revenue when people build up traffic on our website and YouTube channel. Im also kinda keeping my name private for now but I wanna know why every nurse is so afraid of exposing her or his name. Is it so you can post whatever you like and have no consequence or avoid judgment? I do see some mean responses sometimes. Does exposing your name violate any rules in real life?

    Really? Welcome to The Internet.

This is a place where people can vent and discuss nursing issues related to real patients they've had in real work settings. Using usernames can protect our license and job.

So your saying keeping the name private allows you to break rules without revealing your identity so your licence won't be terminated?

If your not breaking any rules then why worry about licence termination? Just keep the name real.

I had a coworker complain about a headache on Facebook once and she lost her job. Why? She'd posted it before going to work, she was friends with a patient's family members... and they reported her, for being unsafe, because she had a headache.

You can't make this BS up.

Until people calm down and stop looking for reasons to tear apart nurses/providers/whatever, it is always better to keep entirely anonymous on the internet. You never know what can be used against you.

If we used our real names, there'd be some real grey area about HIPPA violations I think. People aren't necessarily breaking rules, but if we used our real names you could also figure out where we worked and it wouldn't be hard to put together which patients we were talking about.

I don't have to tell you what a comfort anonymity can be in my profession. It's like a warm blanket.

Right but talking about a patient without their consent is illegal. Your just not pointing out information about which patient your talking about. It's like speeding when cops are not around. Without proof you can walk out of court even tho you probably did break the rules. Although I'm gonna zip my mouth or sew it up since I lie to my mom about not eating that cookie.

Again, it wouldn't be hard to put two and two together if we used our real names. Just take my word for it.

Ok maybe I stand corrected. Although a headace can slow your performance so why not call in sick. It will be worse if she screwed up during a task and ended up getting sued by the patient or patients family. I'ma stop myself tho. We are humans and not God's so we have mistakes happen. Better keep them private since people are so strict. I wish this world was more forgiving ;(

Because you get in trouble at work if you call in sick too often.
