Why I'm voting for John Kerry

  1. Okay, for those of you that cannot accept that the fact that he is not our current President is a good enough reason to vote for him, here are my reasons to vote for John Kerry. Now, remember if you know me and have seen me post before, I don't think John Kerry is the perfect candidate by any means. I have yet to have seen one in my short life and doubt I ever will see one that fits the bill as far as I am concerned. These are the issues that concern me the most as far as my children and grandchildren are concerned:

(all quotes from John Kerry's website that I don't believe I am allowed to post here any longer):

"John Kerry’s priority will be middle class families who are working hard to cover the mortgage, pay the high cost of health care, child care and tuition, or just trying to get ahead." <----this would be MY family!

"Each and every child in this country is valuable because they are our future as a society. We cannot afford to lose a single child to ill-health, under-education, abuse, addiction, jail, or gun violence. America’s highest goal should be for every child to grow up to be a successful young adult -- healthy, educated, free, secure, and a good citizen."
    - John Kerry (My ABSOLUTE NUMBER ONE REASON! because my kids come first in every aspect of my life...if they didn't, I shouldn't have had them!)

"John Kerry has fought for increases in Head Start, child care and early education and will continue to do so as President. He will also launch a major initiative to increase the quality of child care"

"John Kerry is proposing a "National Education Trust Fund" to make sure that, for the first time ever, the federal government meets its obligation to fully fund our education priorities and make sure that schools can meet high standards. He believes it is time to stop sending mandates from Washington to school districts without providing the resources needed to carry them out. " (in the next four years, all of my children will be starting at public schools)

"John Kerry believes every child in America should have health insurance coverage. Children with health insurance receive the preventive health care that avoids expensive emergency room visits. Children with good health care do better in school, becoming more productive citizens. And no parents should ever have to worry about whether they can afford to take a sick child to the doctor. " (my kids don't have to worry about this now, but in the past it was an issue and could very well be in the future if something were to happen to my husband and I)

"John Kerry will make preventing instances of abuse and neglect a major priority. We spend $20 billion a year in federal, state and local funds to investigate child abuse and provide for children who are taken out of their homes. But we provide enough resources for only a tiny fraction of those at-risk of abuse and neglect to receive prevention services. We have to change that."

"The most efficient way to help infants and children is to insure that their parents have adequate skills and jobs, access to higher education, and affordable housing. The job training initiatives that John Kerry supports will insure that the young adults who would otherwise be raising the next generation of children in poverty, can instead provide for them and offer them the loving support they need." <----Hallelujah! and maybe cut down on those on welfare!
"John Kerry believes that we should work to expand opportunities for women, and continue to break down barriers that prevent them. Kerry would fight to assure the right to choose and fight for important protections that promote equality like Title IX and affirmative action programs. And he would work to close the pay gap by promoting equal pay for equal work."

"John Kerry supports expanding our nation’s hate crime law. He supports efforts to provide equal justice for all victims of hate violence, regardless of their race, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, gender or disability."

"John Kerry believes that the practice of racial profiling should be prohibited and that remedies should be established for its victims. It is more important than ever that the nation’s laws are enforced without resort to discrimination."

"Today, college students face soaring tuition costs and a lifetime of debt after graduation. Our country needs a president who understands that today’s students will be the engine of our new economy – and that every student should have the opportunity to prepare for, pay for, and complete four years of college. We deserve a president who will fight for the parents who know that their children deserve higher education and a chance at a lifetime of well-paying jobs. "

"he believes that we should keep the middle class tax cuts that Democrats fought for in 2001 and 2003. Specifically, he wants to protect the increases in the child tax credit, the reduced marriage penalty and the new tax bracket that helps people save $350 on their first level of income. He strongly disagrees with Democrats who want to repeal these tax cuts because it would cost a typical middle-class family with two children an additional $2,000. These families are often already struggling with higher health care costs and higher state and local taxes. In fact, John Kerry wants to give more tax breaks to the middle class with new tax credits on health care and college tuition. These tax cuts are part of his plan to restore the economy and cut the budget deficit in half in four years."

"John Kerry believes that ensuring there is a fair playing field for workers is important to a strong economy. He supports increasing the minimum wage and indexing it to inflation. He will improve workplace health and safety while fighting for fair overtime rules and a worker’s right to join a union. He also believes that workers need more protections against corporate fraud so they don’t lose their lifetime savings because they are working hard for the wrong company."

"John Kerry believes that we need a smaller and smarter government that wastes less money. He has put forward a sensible plan that will at least cut the deficit in half in his first term, while investing in economic growth and investing in workers. "

"True leadership means sharing authority and responsibility for Iraq with others who have an interest in Iraq’s success. Sharing responsibility is the only way to gain new military and financial commitments, allowing America to truly share the burden and the risk. "

"John Kerry has proposed a Military Family Bill of Rights that will provide our military families with competitive pay, good housing, decent health care, quality education for their children, first rate training, and the best possible weaponry, armor, and state-of-the-art equipment. "

This is a start...look for post two in a few minutes.

And has he given even one hint as to how he intends to do all of these things that EVERY President has tried to do since this country gained its' independence?

I'm voting for John Kerry because it would be completely impossible to have anything worse come into the White House, than what's sitting there right now.

    More........

"John Kerry has a six-point plan to ensure that we are safer, stronger and more secure on our own soil." (if you want, I'll post all of it here..otherwise there is a link from his website)

"Kerry teamed with Ted Kennedy to fight against mandatory overtime. He co-authored the Nurse Reinvestment Act to encourage more nurses to enter the workforce and improve training, education, and retention for those who are there today. And Kerry worked closely with nurses in Brockton, Mass. when they were forced to strike for better pay and working conditions. As President, John Kerry will continue to be a tireless advocate for nurses." and it goes on to links titled: "End Mandatory Overtime", "Ensure Safe Staffing Levels", "Combat the Nursing Shortage", "Comprehensive Whistleblower Protection", "Strong and Enforcible Rules for a Safe and Healthy Workplace", "Fighting for the Right to Choose a Union", "Reduce Medication Errors and Stop the Scapegoating of Nurses", "Protect Nurses from Workplace Violence", "Support APRN's" and "On the Record for America's Nurses".

"John Kerry cosponsored the original Family and Medical Leave Act, which has given millions of American workers the chance to take time off for the birth of a child or to care for a sick child or family member. John Kerry believes that we should not only protect Family and Medical Leave but should expand it to help more Americans balance the needs between work and family."

"John Kerry believes that women have the right to control their own bodies, their own lives, and their own destinies. He believes that the Constitution protects their right to choose and to make their own decisions in consultation with their doctor, their conscience, and their God. He will defend this right as President. He recently announced he will support only pro-choice judges to the Supreme Court. Kerry also believes that we should promote family planning and health plans should assure women contraceptive coverage." <---while abortion is not for me, I believe in the right to choose and most certainly the right to abort for women who have been violated.

"John Kerry has worked to ensure women receive access to health care, and he has focused particular attention on breast cancer research and funding. Kerry was an original cosponsor of the Women's Health Equity Act, which ensures women of all ages receive information and access to the highest quality and most advanced health care. He has worked to require health plans to cover hospital stays for breast cancer treatment and to preserve and increase funding for breast and cervical cancer research.
Kerry supports requiring insurance plans to cover contraception and he will continue to fight for a meaningful Patient's Bill of Rights, which would ensure women direct access to their OB/GYNs." (my old insurance used to cover abortions but not birth control...go figure!)

"John Kerry was an original cosponsor of the Violence Against Women Act, which has provided over $1 billion for battered women's shelters, hotlines, and other crucial resources. The Violence Against Women Act also significantly strengthened federal law by including several new federal crimes and enhanced penalties for acts of domestic violence. John Kerry will take this commitment to the White House and support those working to help crime victims and put attackers behind bars."

Then there are veteran's issues, americans with disabilities, the environment, our senior citizens, etc. I have got to get supper for my kids, but here's the answers for those that have to know why I will vote democrat this November.

If you are willing to take the time to read his website, yes, but I am not copying and pasting it all here because I just have other worries on my plate than how to appease everyone here.

This is why I posted my reasons, because I am sick of everyone questioning me. I don't ask them why they are voting the way they are and there is no changing minds anymore. What's done is done.

For the record, this is what I agree with about JK and I am not debating it. You wanted to know (not you personally, Roxannekkb! LOL!), now you know and I'm done with the stinking politics around here. No one had better question my reasons now.

Kim, are you familiar with the saying "Better the Devil you know than the one you don't"? Well I think that's a load of crap. We know what we would be getting with four more years of Bush and I am not about to sign up for more. In 2000 I actually considered voting for Bush but ultimately I was turned off by the way he seemed to be controlled by the far right wing. He turned out far worse than I could have imagined. I'm ready to give another guy a shot. THAT's why I'm voting for KErry.

I will be voting for Kerry because he supports most all of the same positions and issues I do, and has for a long time. He was "my guy" throughout the primary process (in my heart, I really prefer Kucinich, but realize he had no chance of getting the nomination). Kerry has a long, documented track record of being an intelligent, reasonable, responsible, moderate Democrat, and that's plenty good enough for me ...

(However, it is ALSO true that I would vote for a dead yellow dog if it was the Dem candidate this year! )

I'm absolutely amazed that you would make that claim. What, exactly, do you mean by that?

Yep........even if it was the only alternative to Bush, I'd vote for the dead yellow dog too. Luckily, I don't have to, because the more I learn about John Kerry the better I like him. So he's not exciting or handsome or even particularly witty; the man is intelligent and well-spoken, and most importantly, he would take this country in a different, and to my mind, far better direction than Bush. That alone is worth my vote.

I would vote for a pile of horse manure if that was the only alternative to Bush. Even that would be an improvement.
