who's had any medical reality tv show at their hospital?

  1. I watch all those shows like Trauma, New Orleans Health, ER(drama) Maternity Ward and was wondering how many of those nurses I could be talking to sometimes and not know it. Has anyone been there and liked it?...Hated it?

Well, I was in an accident back in 2000 while I was visiting family in Denver. The ambulance took me to Denver Health, and Trauma:Life in the ER happened to be filming there at the time. Got my whole visit permanently burned into celluloid. The initial visit wasn't such a bother...I couldn't really see the cameraman. The follow-up visit was worse. This is how the conversation went:

Cameralady: Wow...your face is pretty messed up. What happened?
Me: (annoyed that the doctors still can't tell me why I am blind) Car accident.
    CL: What happened?
Me: Some guy made an illegal turn in front of us and we hit.
CL: Wow...were you wearing your seatbelt?
    Me: Yes
CL: Did you have an airbag?
    Me:Yes
CL: I bet your really glad you had that airbag!!
Me: (now furious) Actually, it was the AIRBAG that did this to my face and has left me blind!!
CL: Oh...well, have a great day then and I hope you get to feeling better.
(Sound of footsteps beating a hasty retreat)

Discovery films for 30 days, all for two or three 1-hour shows. Some hospital staff thought it was great. The more seasoned staff thought it was a pain. I guess it is who you ask.

How's your face? Damn airbags. I've heard lots of stories on how much harm the ycan do. It seems to me that most of the damage from minor such accidents are from the airbags. Its too bad the airbags can't react at different velocities depending on how hard the hit is.

I haven't. I think it would be embarrassing to me, as well as a potential liability.

I was thinking about the liability issue also. I was watching one of the Maternity reality shows and the nurse was so excited. She looked right at the camera and said, "this is my first time with twins". LOL, I thought, "why would you admit that on camera?"

Although I have no interest in being an L & D nurse (have much respect for those who do), I love Maternity Ward on TLC. It portrays RNs and MDs in a postive, interesting manner. I also got some exam questions right b/c the show! But whenever I see Trauma:Life in the ER, WHERE ARE THE NURSES??? The cameras only follow the residents, do nurses not work in these mystical ERs? :angryfire I know it's not a big deal, but as a student I like to see my future profession in action(on reality not fictional shows). TLC also has the shows "Resident Life" and "The Residents." Some producer must have a weird facination or something. Should we band together and write angry letters to the network?
