White uniforms

  1. Thanks to TPTB, all nurses at the hospital I work at are required to wear all white as of Jan 1. I am still in sticker shock! Why in the world are whites more expensive than colors/prints? I know it didn't help that I had to shop at the ONLY scrub store in town, but I didn't expect to pay so much! Right at $120 for 3 sets.

It's funny, I've noticed that about whites, too. I wonder why that is. Do they use a heavier fabric so you can't see through it or something?

I have so many different "required" colors of scrubs in my closet. Once when we were required to wear white I had to go buy all new whitey-tighty underwear. All white bites!

I went to a local scrubs store as well and it was 3 times that of online. Checked several more and the same trend. Not sure why that is, but I bought mine online.

I understand why it's cheaper online. There's usually more overhead in a store. Rent can be much more expensive for a store than a warehouse. Still I've seen whites in catalogs that cost more than the colors.

I usually go to Wal-Mart (ok, flame me) to get my plain scrubs. The pants are only about $10, not sure about the tops. I have yet to find a pair of white pants you can't see through...in catalogs, stores, etc. I try to steer clear of white pants. I found out nude undies appear more invisible than whites though. Oh, that's an oxy moron (appear, invisible).

    The Powers That Be.

I sure hope they don't do that for us! Don't you just hate it when the "suits" get a bee in their bonnet, and everyone else has to suffer??

    i just loooooooooove white.
i recently went out and bought ceil and white scrub dresses! they go to my mid shin.
yes, white is impractical and shows everything-vomit, feces, blood, gastric contents and undies. but for reasons unknown, i love wearing white. kinda like wearing gloves and heels to church (sorry steph ).

baaaaaaaahaha !!! Oh yes.. I can relate.
I remember those days, and miss them sometimes.

As to the whites, Leslie, we are two

It, too, prefer whites over anything else. If I wear colors, then they are solids. But still prefer them with white bottoms, and white shoes.

I've tried the WMart white bottoms, too, and actually am quite pleased with them ! I find they are a thicker material than most other white bottoms.

Firm believer that if a facility is going to make a uniform policy, they should help foot the bill for the change for the current employees. Not everyone has the 200 bucks to buy a new work wardrobe and the drop of a hat.

I work in home care, and we can wear any type of scrubs. I usually wear white scrub pants.......not sure why, but I also like to wear white! I also do the Walmart pants! I've got the drawstring type and just elastic with pockets. They are pretty cheap and they are pretty thick fabric, too. I usually buy my pants there and my tops at a uniform shop. Tried to make a couple tops, but found it was too much trouble!

My standard attire is a print top, not too crazy, don't want to overwhelm the premies, coordinating color pants, usually darker colors. I like lighter pastel tops, but whenever I get pink pants, they sit in the closet. And blue is my favorite color, so that color is always prefered.
