When nurses have nightmares version 2.0

  1. All signs are pointing to my needing a vacation.

So I had a nightmare today (worked nights, slept during days). Very vivid and freaky.

I was at my parents home in the country. I don't live there, but I tend to crash there as a kind of retreat once in a while. So I get a phone call asking if I could pick up a shift at some nursing home that I'd never heard of. And I said I would (I used to do agency work when I was a student 6 years ago)

So anyway I'm getting ready to go to work, problem is, I don't have any uniforms and my shoes are at my home. This is apparently a very stressful situation to be in for me. So I dress in what I have. I decide to put on my Mother's pearls (huh?). And all of this is taking so long I'm gonna be late (oh the horror!)My mother is fussing over me and my dad is fussing over my truck and there is some kind of huge fire breathing dragon (or something) blocking the driveway, preventing me from going to work.

Finally I get on the road. I drive to the town where this nursing home is supposed to be (incidentally the town where I went to highschool). I can't find the place!! Talk about stress. Finally I ask for instructions and find where it is. It an old house next to a church and straddling a river. I go in and there are all these people sitting on the porch glaring at me. "You're late!", they say, "t's 9:30 and you were supposed to be here at 5:30 am!" I'm led over to the kitchen and am handed a chicken drumstick. "Do you know what to do with this?", a women says mockingly. "Umm", I say. "Debone it?" "Right", she says, "start shredding chicken for lunch". "Umm", I say, "is there any, like, nursing work to do around here?" She gives me a dirty look and stomps away. I start shredding chicken with my fingers.

    And then I woke up.

How's that for the first dream of 2003?

    my dear thats fu*ked...
I wouldnt wanna be the one analyzing that one adrie...
sorry you had a bad dream though
I tend to have a lot of MESSED up dreams...
like the lil ditty I had last week ...
in this dream my friends were trying to get me to go out on a blind date with some guy, I was resisting (ok that parts not too far fetched) so finally I relent and go out with him, he's cute and nice and we get along and whatever but then things start to get weird, I start getting emails saying he is not who he seems and to watch out , I try to aks him about it and he just keeps saying "dont worry babe its all good" yep thats right, s'all good... so I find out that he stole someones identity and is really a psychopath, oddly enough I dont call the police, I keep this knowledge to myself and run away and change my identity......
so I'm far away, changing my identity to get away from a psychopath boyfriend who changed HIS identity.... very weird...
if this is what dating is all about
gimme those cats and let me start to fufill my Lady with 1000 cats prophecy...
    yikes

adrie dont forget, when in doubt ......

Wow odd dream. I just got a dream book with some of my holiday money. If they keep up might be worth looking into.

I arrive to work for my shift and immediately go into the school library (huh?) and start a telephone conversation. When I come out of the library straight onto the medsurg floor, I realize I've been on the phone for 5 hours and haven't seen one of my 7 patients yet. I was terrified of what I might find. Then I woke up.

ohhhhhh thats a bad one brita!
thats like the dream I had when I first started working med surg- a recurrent dream no less - that I would go to work, look after all the patients on my team, or at least so I thought , but there would be one that was supposed to be under my care and I didnt realize it , so NOTHING was done for that one patient
for the first two weeks at work I cannot tell you the number of times I kept asking for clarification as to the breakdown of the patients on the unit hehehe

Brita, I've had a dream kinda like that, where I was so distracted by things, that I couldn't get to my patients. Hours would go by "I haven't even seen my patients yet!"

Those were my exact dream thoughts followed closely by "oh shyt, what about their vital signs!" The nurses take 1st set of vitals where I work.

That's my recurrent one (and it's always a 12 hour shift, natch!) Also, that I'm working night shift and the patients I've been checking on all night turn out rigormortisy-dead when day shift walks on (and I swear to whoever that they were breathing all night...)

Oh well - it's dreams like that that keep us on our toes, I guess!
