What's yer handle, good buddy?

  1. I know I am dating myself... but, what was your handle back in the day? C'mon.. I know quite a few of you had a CB radio - probably still got an old one in the garage or basement.

I was Treble Clef initially (Dad wouldn't let me have a cute sexy name at 15). No one knew what the heck that meant until one day driving down to Arkansas I heard "The Music Man" talk to me. Dad was "The Doctor" and Mom was "Lady Blackbird".

"Yeah, we got ourselves a convoy, truckin' through the night! Yeah, we gotta ourselves a convoy, ain't she a beautiful sight? Convoyyyyyyyy......"

I didn't get a handle. My father has a small town taxi service and it had to be business. After all this time I still remember the call
letters 18 Q 94 22 and later it changed to KBH1647. But don't ask me my cell phone number or the combination to my locker at the gym/pool.

When I was 18 and trying to find my way in the world, my best friend and I went to Texas with her boyfriend, who was a truck driver. A bunch of trucks left at the same time and it was really cool, cause it was a sort of a convoy until we got to TX, where everyone went their own way. My friend gave me the name Sunshine. edit: This was MUCH later than the CB craze
A few years later, I had a small portable CB in my little GEO Storm that I used on long drives. I was Sunshine in the Storm.

Breaker one nine for a radio check ! Before there were cell phones, there was CB, where people learned a wonderful communication skill. I spent hours with my base station, talking to everyone, and skipping my voice all over the ionosphere like a stone.

OMG, the memories. My dad owned a trucking business while I was growing up, and we always HAD to have a CB in our vehicle. I remember as a child, wanting to rip that thing out and chuck it out the window [repressed rage surfacing]. Imagine the 9 your drive to Thunder Bay listening to nothing but static and truckers. I wasn't even allowed to talk to them!

    10-4 good buddy.
