What's with big kids in strollers!!??

  1. I am dumbfounded by how old kids are and still riding around in strollers. I routinely see 6 and 7 year old kids strapped into strollers the size of a Buick. And no, I am not talking about kids with developmental/physical challenges.

Can anyone enlighten me? These massive strollers are a real hazard in stores and sidewalks. Can't figure out why these kids aren't walking.

If it makes life easier I am all for it. I am also used to seeing kids that age going under their own steam, but also remember being a kid and the endless walking associated with grown up shopping.

The only way to spend an extended period of time walking with kids is to take frequent sit down breaks, or plan on doing something the kids enjoy as a reward (go look at toys) but it is true that some people don't want to do that so a stroller is the next best thing I guess.

Beats me. Always amazes me too. My stroller was GONE before my girls hit three years old. They've been walking ever since. Looking back on it, I'm kinda amazed that I dragged three three-year-olds around with me rather than lug a stroller---but then again, a triplet stroller was nothing to sneeze at. I had to put it together and take it apart everytime we went somewhere. And it weighed 80 pounds empty!

So...7-year-olds in strollers...and we wonder why so many kids are overweight.

I hate strollers. When I had one child, I used a little umbrella type. It was pretty easy, light. Then the second one came along and my OB talked me into buying a double stroller, said she'd just come back from Six Flags with her kids and even used it with her 8 year old. So, I bought a stroller that weighs more than my two kids combined and takes up enough trunk space that you can only browse, because after 2 car seats in the front and the huge stroller in the back, there's no bag space. The kids are 1 & 2 and I have probably used the stroller three times total...all at the ballpark for sleeping purposes. When they learned to walk, I took full advantage of that blessing (and Rick wants to know if prayers are answered ). LOL

I don't know what's worse, 7 year olds running loose in the store or parents who use the stroller (containing their children) to bully their way through the crowd.

These things anger me! I know my child's limitations. I know how many places and how much walking he can tolerate. I plan my trips, and my life, accordingly. Those parents, pushing around 50 pound kids in strollers, look like idiots.

...girls, i think those that still uses the stroller for their older kids might have a very good reason on why they still use that

OH MY GAWD!!!!!! It drives me CRAZY TOO!!!! If a child is old enough to walk and talk, they don't need a dang pacifier OR bottle hanging out of their mouth!!!!!!!!! I hate to hear a kid try to talk through a pacifier!
