what's this world comming to?

  1. Is anybody else getting freaked out about the news lately? I am usually a pretty positive person looking at the good in mankind and having hope for a better world. But over the past few weeks the news around the country is scaring the %$^& out of me. Children are being murdred right and left in their schools, mothers having their babies cut from their wombs and left to bleed to death, newborns being taken from their mothers arms just a few days old. I know these things occured but Whew! It seems like it's a couple times a day that I am hearing them now. I have a 14 year old son and I am not feeling good about sending him to school these days. Just seems to be more frequent and more horriffic each time. How do you all deal with this with your kids, and in your own minds?

Your "take" on the sad condition of our society is a direct result of people having lived life "their way...care-free..." with not much thought to anyone but themselves. The "Baby Boomer Generation" has surely made a royal mess of humanity. The generations following them are simply a reflection of that.

The world has always been like this.

A 100 years ago, it was using poison gas and shooting PoWs in warfare.
60 years ago, it was carpet bombing entire cities to rubble during war.
40 years ago, it was lynching black folk in town squares.
Today it's shooting kids in schools.
    Tomorrow it'll be something else.

IMHO, we constantly under-estimate the massive influence and impact modern mass media has on our daily lives and views of the world. Every generation has always decried that "the world is going to hell in a handbasket". Well, more than a dozen generations have passed and the world is still here...

    cheers,

I have been really affected by what's been going on in just the past week. Children are going to be afraid to go to school and I fear that the classroom environment with the beefed up security, although entirely necessary, is just going to be a reminder of what has happened.

My heart is very heavy tonight, and I think that I'm going to have to take a news break for the next few days. I'm a newshound, so that's saying a lot. The last time I had to do this was 9/11.

I just need to take time to find out what is good and right in the world.
