Walked in a room with a pump that was beeping. This pump had been doing this all night, but one time i went in the room, the pt. said "They're playing our song!!"

Most annoying: when the pump beeps and the pt. or family members just hit all the buttons to make it quit, resetting the pump, screwing up the numbers. Oh and pts. and families who confuse the hospital with a hotel.

kev? What's making your avatar retch?

I work on an Alzheimer's/behavioral unit. I was up all night listening to a guy yelling "Fire! Fire! Turn up the heat". Because his feet were cold of course. I couldn't seem to convince him that I couldn't start a fire in his room or turn the oven on to warm up the room. The room is the hottest in the building btw. Nope, it's not you........of course it's always the building that's cold lol. Anyway it was a night of blanket fetching, hot packs and bundling (over and over and over)

Although I understand being hospitalized is a stressful event in ones life as well as their families lives, it annoys me when I first walk into a patients room straight out of report and hear a list of demands. I can't even get my introduction out good before the patient and/or family is belting out a list of things they want/need immediately (i.e. ice, blankets, water, etc.) Don't get me wrong, these are reasonable requests and it is my pleasure to get these items, it just bothers me when I can't even start my assessment before I am requested to get a shopping list of items.

Had a pt last night, who on admission states : I know Everything!! Well that's off to a good start. This kid was on his light every 15min for mouth swabs, warm blankets, heating pad, and could not seem to remember that he was NPO. BTW, peds doc was kinda forced to admit the kid because he knew them-he stated this to the ER nurse. The only good thing was that this frequent flyers mom was leaving, the last time she was here, she jumped into the room's other bed and used the call light as much as her son!!!:angryfire As for the "I know everything" statment, I'd like to say: let's play a game, I'll ask you questions, and when you get them wrong< I get to slap you!!! Hee-Hee, sometimes wish you could tell em off, specially smart**s kids.

Well, your avatar *is* unique - it's nice to know that people associate a certain pic with a certain poster.

That said, it does kinda freak me out, too - a good reason for keeping it!
