What's for dinner?

  1. Just was wondering what everyone else was cooking for dinner tonight. I'm making SOS (aka "stuff" on a shingle). Did anyone else grow up eating this? I'm just wondering if it is a regional or international dish.

The only time I remember eating this was in the military... :chuckle

Would be ok, if they didn't always make it too salty ! :stone blech.

Had me a can of soup for supper.. barley beef. And a few crackers with hoop cheddar.

What is "stuff on a shingle?" Don't think that it is international, unless it is a military dish.

Dinner tonight: Beef tenderloin gilled with a mustard and pepper sauce since lunch is Thai food every day, but with brown rice slowly getting my students changed over to healthier eating.

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww no SOS for me.....i was introduced to it in the USAF and it must be a southern thing or something. we never ate like that in Chicago growing up.

tonight it's chicken cacciatore, easy dish in the pot simmering---- cause it's also soccer night (sigh).

It's popularly known as s*** on a shingle....or sausage/gravy on a biscuit, to describe it. the concept is great, but it LOOKS bad to me and tastes worse....maybe it was the gravy. just greasy and not very flavorful.

I make my sos with chipped beef and a "rue" as my dad calls it-butter, flour and milk. We eat in on bread. I'm not sure where it originated from, maybe the south because my mama was from Tennessee.

The way we make "S--T on shingles" was to make a cream gravy and add tuna. I have not made it for years but I will now. You serve it over toast, that is the shingles part. It sounds gross but it is really very good and cheap to make when you are on a budget. When seasoned well, it is reallllly good! Better than some other things I have made.

    Probably not low cal either!!
