What was your favorite birthday present so far?

  1. I was just wondering what everyone's favorite birthday present was? I have several favorites, I remember as a chld getting a Mary Poppins Doll ( I was 6),
my Grandmother gave me her necklace , a heart with 2 lovebirds in amathyst when I was a teen. And this year my hubby actually listened to me and I got a new storm door, LOL I just love it, and the garage door is ordered. Isn't it funny how our favorites change as we age?

A tin of baked beans for my 11th birthday ... when my parents asked me what I wanted for my birthday, that was IT. Big was the surprise to find the tin of baked beans in the carriage of a bicycle (which I did not ask for because I thought I would never get one).

My POGO STICK !!! When I was 12 ... still love 'em, still snatch 'em away from kids when I see one, and "boing" to my hearts content !

Other favs were my microscope set when I was 10, and my human anatomy model ... (clear plastic model of a woman, had loose bones, organs, etc. you had to paint and fit into the correct places in the body, paint all the veins and arteries.. bones had to be connected to each other properly... and she even had a tiny fetus and maternity belly you could snap on if you wanted a preggy version).
Others were my woodburning set, my cinderella watch, and my Tiny Tears doll, and Ginny Doll . And of course my very first OWN transistor radio when I was 16 !

Soooo, now you can guess my age ! :chuckle

    I got a guitar when I was 13.
    Still play today.
And that's been more than 10 years ago.

I grew up in a very poor and disfunctional family. My husband knew this and he also knew that I had always wanted a barbie doll but never got one. We got married six days after my 16th Bday and the next day the UPS truck arrived at my door with a barbie set my hubby had ordered from fingerhut for my Bday. That was 19yrs ago and I still get those barbies out now and then. Can ya see why I think he is the BOMB!

A car for my 16th birthday. A 1981 Ford Escort...it had been my dad's, but I still loved that car! And for my last birthday, my hubby bought me a new engagement/wedding ring set to replace the one that was stolen from my locker at work.

My Mom was frosting my birthday cake when I came home from school on my 11th birthday. I took my finger and snuck a little icing that had dripped. Mom told me I could just take my hand a grab a peice of cake because it was my birthday!

She was always so neat and clean but didn't even make me wash my hands.

That ties with what her mother gave all her grandchildren when we turned 21. She had a cardboard box for each of us with every letter, drawing, card, and kid type gift we had given her all those years. I was most surprized because I was the oldest living grandchild. (I still have that stuff).

I can remember being OBSESSED with Barbies and playing house when I was little. So... when I got a Barbie Townhouse for my 6th birthday I freaked out! My poor mom, she probably thought she was going to have to medicate me! She was a single mom and money was extremely tight but she knew how much I wanted that stupid cardboard townhouse. Do you guys remember those? With the little pink elevator and pull string? This would be the seventies and man I loved that thing. To this day, it sticks out as my most favorite present because of the love my mom put behind it.
